About Ezequiel

Mr. Alvarez-Figueroa was born and raised in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. He relocated to New Haven, Connecticut in 2010 with the intention of pursuing a college degree. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene and a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of New Haven School of Health Sciences.

Ezequiel joined the Department of Dental Hygiene at the University of New Haven in 2017 as a part-time adjunct faculty. During his first two years in the department, he taught clinical competencies at the sophomore level of the dental hygiene curriculum. In 2019, he became part of the full-time faculty and now plays the role Clinical Dental Hygienist, teaching clinical for both sophomore and junior levels, as well as taking part in the programs’ accreditation process and laboratory coordination and management.

Ezequiel has many years of experience working in a public health setting, providing patient education and preventative dental treatment to people in need. Although most of his professional career has been in a clinical setting, his passion for education and academia has always keep him active in the dental hygiene department of the University of New Haven.

His teaching style includes active learning with the main objective of showing student how to implement learned theory into a private clinical setting or a public health setting.

His professional affiliations include the American Dental Hygienists' Association and the Connecticut Dental Hygienists' Association Southeastern Component.
