The University of New Haven takes great pride in the accomplishments, both personal and academic, of its many students and alumni. In keeping with this ideal, the University is committed to providing equal access for individuals with disabilities to all of its programs and services. This commitment embodies the University's determination to ensure the inclusion of all members in its community and is consistent with legal requirements of both Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act ("ADAAA") of 2008.

The Accessibility Resources Center ("ARC") provides comprehensive supports and a range of services that serve to promote educational equity and ensure that students are able to participate in the opportunities available at the University of New Haven.

To sustain this objective, students are expected to exercise a significant degree of independence while also being encouraged to utilize the resources of the Accessibility Resources Center as well as other campus resources to the degree the student determines necessary to obtain academic, social, and career goals. The Accessibility Resources Center is available to assist students as the need arises.

Requests medical, military or other disability-related accommodations

If you are a student with a chronic medical condition, military service-related disorder or other disability, you may benefit from the support and services of ARC. Enrolled students who previously held an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Educational Plan, who would like to continue with reasonable accommodations at the University of New Haven, must request the accommodations through the Accessibility Resources Center.

These accommodations are not automatic.

Students may request accommodations at any time, but new students should submit requests by August 1 to ensure timely implementation of accommodations.

How to Request Modifications to Housing and/or Dining

If you are a student who will need modifications to housing (such as an air conditioner, single room, double room, accessible bathroom, etc.) due to a military, chronic health-related disorder or other disability, or if you are a student who needs modifications to dining (such as a modified meal plan due to severe food allergies or other significant medical conditions with significant dietary restrictions), you must apply for an accommodation.

These modifications are not automatic. In order to ensure accommodations can be provided in a timely manner, applications must be submitted by July 1.

More Than Access Support Program

More than Access is a comprehensive tailored program geared toward students with the diagnosis of autism, NVLD, or PDD. This program includes academic coaching and advising, support with organization and time management, building of communication skills, individual and group counseling, and facilitation of participation on campus. Students will meet with graduate staff twice a week and professional staff once a week. Peer Mentors support students and their interests including participation in registered student organizations, events, and activities on campus. This is not a fee-based program; however, a limited number of participants will be chosen.
