Luis is an IT Professional and Adjunct Faculty currently teaching Networking and Cybersecurity courses at both the University of New Haven and Central Connecticut State University. Luis started his Adjunct Faculty teaching career in 2005, served as an Assistant Professor at CCSU during the 2018-2019 calendar year, and has over 10 years teaching experience where he enjoys bringing the realities of the IT industry to the classroom.
Luis has been in the IT industry for over forty years! He started in the 70’s working for Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) as a Field Service Engineer gaining minicomputer skills while supporting PDP-8 (12 bit), PDP-11 (16 bit), VAX cluster systems (32 bit), and implementing first-generation Ethernet networking products to Fortune 500 customers. Luis left DEC after eight years to pursue his B.S.E.E. at UNH. After graduation, he landed a position at Northeast Utilities’ (Eversource Energy) Millstone nuclear power plant (Waterford, CT) in 1993.
Luis worked at the corporate office in Berlin, CT and was able to obtain his M.S. from RPI in 2004. He held several senior roles including: Sr. System Engineer, Sr. Network Analyst – LAN/WAN, and Sr. Security Systems Engineer until 2014 (a 21-year period). Luis has worked as a Consultant/Service Delivery Manager at Legrand Corporation (West Hartford, CT) and as a Network Performance Engineer at UTC (Newington, CT).
Core competencies include: Consulting, Cybersecurity Engineering, MSSP & Vendor Management, Network Management Engineering, Cisco Networking, and Subject Matter Expert (SME) on several network security vendor products (Checkpoint, Sourcefire, and NetScout).
As for industry certifications, Luis is a CCAI (Cisco Certified Academy Instructor), has his CCNA, CCNA Security, CompTIA’s Security + certification, and is currently pursuing both Cisco (CCNP) and Cloud (AWS) certifications. Luis is a member of IEEE and a member of CCSU’s Industrial Advisory Board (IAB, School of Engineering, Science, and Technology).

As for hobbies, Luis is an accomplished, semi-professional percussionist. He has played and continues to play throughout the state and with several artists. Luis has performed at the Copacabana (NYC, 2015), the Hartford Jazz Festival (Bushnell Park, 2017), and the Caribbean Jerk Festival (Riverfront in Hartford, 2019). Luis is married and has two children - all family members are IT Professionals!
