Engineering Alumnus Receives New Haven Promise Legacy Award
Jordy Padilla, who received a degree in engineering from the University of New Haven
in 2015, received the New Haven Promise's Legacy Award this month during a ceremony
at the Omni Hotel.
August 14, 2015
The award, which was established last year, recognizes a scholar who has recently
graduated and has demonstrated a deep commitment to their studies, to their fellow
Promise scholars and to the City of New Haven.
Padilla is a New Haven resident who graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 2011
as a Promise scholar. New Haven Promise is a scholarship program for New Haven public
school students who maintain a 3.0 GPA and fulfill attendance and community service
requirements.
He has volunteered his time to help high school students prepare for college and has
worked to help many students navigate the college admission process.
Now an engineer for the Walsh Group, Padilla has been outspoken about children like
himself who are brought to the U.S. and who are undocumented. He has helped inspire
fellow immigrant students to find a path to college. You can watch Padilla’s video
