Suzanna Coffey, an acclaimed painter, will deliver the Commencement address at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts of the University of New Haven on Saturday, May 16.

Twelve students will receive B.F.A. degrees and one student a post-baccalaureate certificate at the 3 p.m. ceremony at the campus, 84 Lyme Street.
Coffey, the F.H Sellers Professor in Painting at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago, lives and works in New York City.
Her paintings are included in the permanent collections of many museums, including Yale University Art Gallery, the Hood Museum at Dartmouth College, and Honolulu Academy of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Seville, Spain and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, as well as The Art Institute of Chicago. She has a B.F.A. degree from the University of Connecticut and an M.F.A. from Yale University.
Coffey will receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree, as will Suzanne Joffray, a painter who is a former development director and teacher at the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn. Joffray has served on Lyme Academy College’s board of trustees and helped to found and develop the college’s alumni association.

After she graduates with her bachelor’s degree in international affairs in May, Allison Mahr ’24 will head to the Republic of Georgia with the support of a Boren National Security Fellowship. She’s excited to use the award to build her skills and, ultimately, make an impact in the post-conflict reconstruction of the region.
