Hundreds of students recently attended the University of New Haven's Fall 2026 Career and Internship Fair at the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center, making connections and collecting business cards. The event was an opportunity to put their preparation into practice, explore industries and employers, and take another step toward their professional goals.

The fair brought together students and employers representing fields such as business, engineering, criminal justice, healthcare, and more. Students arrived with different levels of experience and different goals, from finding a first internship to preparing for full-time employment after graduation.

For Josh Adeyanju '27, a civil engineering student, the focus was on finding opportunities in construction or project management. He came to the fair with several employers in mind while also giving himself time to explore.

"I've been around, but I'm still going to take another lap and see what I missed," he said.

Preparation included updating their resumes, researching employers, and preparing questions in advance. Chloe Tetford '27, a student studying cybersecurity with a concentration in cyber operations and a minor in Russian language and area studies, wanted to find a summer internship before beginning a master's program in cybersecurity and AI/LLM.

"I reviewed my resume, updated it where I could, and formatted it better so it's easy to read," she said.

'Checked out the companies representing today in advance'

For Gloria Owusu '27 MBA, a student specializing in financial analysis, preparation meant narrowing down which employers she wanted to meet.

"I first of all checked out the companies representing today in advance, and I have a couple of them that I really want to talk to," she said. "So I did background research on them, checked what they do, and what they might be looking for, stuff like that."

One of those employers was Urban Grid, an energy company that connected with her previous experience in energy management and her MBA studies.

"I'm trying to see if they have any opportunities for me," Owusu said.

Muhammad Ali '27 MPH also arrived with a targeted approach. He had identified employers relevant to his field, prepared questions, and planned to follow up after the fair.

"My goal is to achieve a full-time position after I graduate, and, of course, to network with these employers," he said. "I have the questions ready for them."

He was particularly interested in Hartford Healthcare, where he hoped to explore opportunities related to epidemiology based on his experience with the Connecticut Department of Public Health and his interest in data analysis. "I'll follow up on them after a day or two and see how it goes," he said.

'What opportunities that my major can get me into'

The fair was also a chance to discover possibilities not previously considered. Sarafina Wargo '30, a business analytics student, came with an interest in the automotive industry but was open to seeing where her major might take her.

"My main goal is to look at what opportunities that my major can get me into," she said. "I want to go into the automotive industry, but there's a chance I might find something else."

Wargo researched the employers attending and prepared questions about how her major could fit their organizations and what internship opportunities were available. "I was just about to go over to Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) because they seemed like they were perhaps looking for business analytics," she said.

Other students arrived with similarly specific goals. Alberto Melendez '29, who's studying clinical psychology, initially came to complete an assignment requiring him to identify an employer and learn more about its work and hiring needs.

But while attending he found an interesting opportunity. "I came here just to complete an assignment, but I found a company that looks pretty interesting," Melendez said. "I might look more into it. My goal is to get some sort of internship to gain experience."

Across the fair, students brought different majors, interests, and levels of experience, but shared a willingness to explore what comes next. For Madeline Grace '28, who is studying interior design, that meant learning more about the companies represented and looking ahead to a summer internship.

"I went back into my LinkedIn profile," she said. "I brushed that up a little bit and brushed up my resume and printed out some copies of that to be prepared for today."
