Hosted by the University’s Career Development Center, the annual STEM career fair connected students enrolled in science, technology, engineering, and math programs with potential internships and job opportunities.

Tremain Turner ’20, a mechanical engineering major, is hoping to complete an internship this summer. To develop some leads and to build his network, he recently attended the Career Development Center’s science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career fair.
"It was a great way for me to practice branding myself to potential employers," said Turner. "It was a terrific opportunity to speak with representatives of companies that I am interested in working for, and also for them to put a face to the name on my resume."
Turner was one of the more than 450 students who attended the event, representing one-third of the students majoring in programs in the STEM fields.
"Events like this give students the opportunity to see the industry and what’s available," said Matt Caporale, executive director of the Career Development Center. "They can connect directly with employers, and, hopefully, those connections will lead to internships and jobs."
The STEM career fair has been growing each year, and this fair was the largest yet, with 70 employers participating. It is designed to incorporate all STEM disciplines, including computer science, biology, cybersecurity, and forensic science.
Students met with representatives from large corporations, including Electric Boat, Sikorsky, and Lockheed Martin, as well as smaller laboratories and companies.

Luke Sisson of Honeywell, another business represented at the career fair, says the company has had "exceptional success with University of New Haven students.
"The students know how to take initiative, and they are always very prepared," Sisson continued. "At the last career event, we got 60 good resumes, as well as 20 more applications during the next few days. We are interviewing nine applicants, and we plan to hire four interns directly from the University this academic term."
