Internship Sparks Interest in Law School

When it came time for me to get an internship, I was really struggling with what career path I wanted to pursue: legal studies or forensic psychology.

I went ahead and uploaded my resume onto our ChargerLink and received an email from an attorney’s office in New Haven. When I stepped into the office, I knew it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to learn. Attorney Cutillo clerked for both New Haven and Hartford Superior Courts before starting his own firm. I chose this office to do my internship because I was impressed with Attorney Cutillo’s experience, and I wanted to be involved in the company from the ground up.

Through this internship, I am extremely hands on with the business. I am gaining one-on-one teaching that I would not have gotten anywhere else. I am using techniques and lessons from previous classes in the internship. I am learning about drafting legal documents, negotiations, strategic planning, etc. I have already attended court a few times to become familiar with the proceedings.

Since I started this internship, I have developed a deep love for legal studies. I am now planning on attending law school after graduation. Attorney Cutillo is helping me prepare for the LSAT and will be preparing me for law school. I am often asked difficult questions and asked to think outside of the box. One of the main lessons I have learned so far is: "always expect a curve ball" and "always be prepared for anything."

Through this internship, I am expecting to be prepared for law school. I hope to learn to think more critically – to "think like a lawyer." I am hoping to be a more confident worker and have more confidence in my voice. I want to make more connections and get my name out early. Most importantly, I’m hoping to gain more knowledge of the law and the court system. As of right now, this internship has already given me so much, and I am extremely excited to see how the rest of the summer turns out.
