D.R.E.A.M. Transition Program
Defeating Roadblocks in Education Through Awareness and Mentoring
The D.R.E.A.M. Transition Program equips first-year students with tools for academic success, connection, communication, awareness, critical thinking, and more. Students engage with their D.R.E.A.M. Ambassadors, Learning Assistants, faculty, staff, and peers through meaningful team-building activities, roundtable discussions, presentations, and a recreational off-campus event. This program provides consistent programming designed to help students build strong connections with campus resources that support their success throughout the first semester. The program is open to first-year University of Newhaven students utilizing ARC services.
“Take Charge of Your First Year Experience!”
D.R.E.A.M. is hosted through the Accessibility Resources Center (ARC) and is a two-day transition program designed to support students registered with ARC in achieving academic success. The program occurs in August as an early move-in two days prior to first-year move-in. Programming and support continue throughout the students’ first year and beyond, connecting them with ARC staff, ARC resources, Learning Assistants, D.R.E.A.M. Ambassadors, and more.
Following D.R.E.A.M., students have the opportunity to attend additional D.R.E.A.M. and ARC events including D.R.E.A.M. Game Night, the ARC Registration Party, Disable the Label, and more. These events are designed to support student connection and retention.
Students interested in participating must be registered or planning to register with the Accessibility Resources Center and submit their application by August 1st.
Students will connect with other D.R.E.A.M. participants registered with ARC and get to know their D.R.E.A.M. Ambassadors, active University of Newhaven students who volunteer through ARC and are very knowledgeable about the university and its resources, through a variety of activities. Through participation and team-building, students make early connections and friendships that can last a lifetime.
Students will also engage with Learning Assistants, graduate students employed through ARC who provide mentoring and tutoring, and University of Newhaven faculty and staff to learn about campus resources, tools, and strategies for academic success.
Following D.R.E.A.M., students have the chance to continue participation by applying for the D.R.E.A.M. Ambassador position. This provides leadership experience, résumé-building opportunities, and the chance to support future D.R.E.A.M. students by assisting with the planning and implementation of the Transition Program.
Students can register by filling out the D.R.E.A.M. online application form no later than the Deadline of August 1st. The application is located in the Road Map, inside the myCharger portal or by visiting:
