Dora Atwater Millikin, artist member and teacher at the
Providence Art Club and the Copley Society, will present a lecture on Thursday, March 24, from 6-8 p.m.
March 04, 2016
The event is part of the winter 2016 lecture series and will take place in the lecture hall at the Old Lyme campus, 84 Lyme Street. The reception is at 6 p.m., followed by the lecture at 7 p.m.
Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Milliken, an alumnus of Lyme, is one of many prominent alumni, faculty and other nationally recognized artists who will be featured in a series of lectures, classes, exhibitions and residencies planned for the anniversary year.
Millikin’s subject matter focuses on coastal New England scenery with emphasis on the gritty, industrial aspects of the fishing industry and the increasingly more urban nature of local towns.
She serves on the board of directors as an honorary member for the South Coast Artists Inc., a volunteer, nonprofit corporation that promotes artists year round in the south coast region of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Millikin opens her studio each summer as a participant on the open studio Art Drive Tour.
Milliken continues to paint with groups at the Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Her work is seen in private collections in Europe and throughout the United States.
Tickets are $15 for the lecture and reception. There is limited seating so reservations are required. Please contact Kristen Brady at 860.434.3571 ext. 121 or by email at kbrady@lymefs.newhaven.edu.
