17 University of New Haven Students Awarded Army ROTC Scholarships

Seventeen University of New Haven students were selected to receive a full tuition Army Reserve Officers Training Course (ROTC) scholarship.

Lt. Col. James Zopelis, UNH Army ROTC battalion commander, swore in the University’s largest class of student cadets on Jan. 22 at University Theater in Dodds Hall on the UNH’s main campus, 300 Boston Post Road.

"It is an honor to provide the commitment of 17 leaders at the finest forensic science university in the nation that also offers, leading programs in engineering, the arts and sciences," said Zopelis. "The University of New Haven faculty and staff embrace those who serve in the military, and this ceremony was our opportunity to formally recognize these students and the support we receive from this world class staff every day."

Upon graduation, students will be commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army and will serve a minimum of four years.

The UNH Army ROTC program was launched in 2011.
