In-Person Meetings for Classes on Monday, January 26, 2026 are Cancelled; Online/remote classes to be held as determined by Faculty.
Public Safety is tracking a significant snowfall that will be arriving in our area late Sunday morning (Jan. 25). It will snow heavily throughout the day and evening eventually tapering off Monday (Jan. 26) with 10-14 inches expected statewide. A sleet and freezing rain mix is also possible along the shore. Temperatures will be in the teens and twenties.
Due to this significant winter storm and the extensive campus clean-up operations that will need to take place, all in-person day and evening classes scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026 have been cancelled. All scheduled in-person classes will transition to being held online or remotely. Additional information on the virtual format for each class will be provided by your instructor.
Faculty have been asked to prepare for Online or Remote sessions in the event of in-person meeting cancellations. These options will be determined by the Faculty member and all questions should be directed to the Faculty teaching each course section. Faculty also have been asked to be very understanding and accommodating of the individual situations of their students who may have difficulty managing these alternative online or remote class meetings on short notice.
Please note that only essential employees, as previously determined by their respective department leaders, should report to campus. All other employees should fulfill the requirements of their role remotely.
Campus operations for residential students, unless otherwise noted, will operate as scheduled, though hours may be modified or changed based on the conditions. Separate messages will be sent from the Peterson Library, the Beckerman Recreation Center, and Dining Services regarding any changes to their normal hours of operation. The Bergami Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation will remain open for residential students to use for study space and to participate in online classes.
Off-campus students that live in the City of West Haven should abide by the city’s parking ban during inclement weather to avoid having their vehicle tagged and towed. Please check the City of West Haven’s website for further information on their snow parking ban.

Athletics Director Devin Crosby pumped up our Chargers at Convocation and Charge Back as the University enters its DI era.
As the fall semester brings a new era for our students in Charger Nation, the University is also making the move to NCAA Division I, bringing a lot of excitement to Charger athletics.
With premium prizes in hand – such as Nike sneakers, headphones, t-shirts, and more – Athletics Director Devin Crosby pumped up our newest students at Convocation and our rising sophomores at the University’s inaugural Charge Back program before the fall semester began.
"Here’s what I need from everybody," he said. "Two things: Add us on Instagram, and come to one game a week," Crosby said.
Students were encouraged to follow UNewHaven athletics on Instagram and attend one game a week to cheer on our Charger athletes.
The University is transitioning to NCAA Division I and the NEC beginning with the 2025-26 academic year, and the Chargers will attain full Division I membership in 2028-29 following the NCAA-mandated reclassification period.
Students who attended the Charge Back program all received a University fanny pack, a few of which contained a golden ticket. Those with the lucky fanny packs were the winners of custom Nike sneakers or Beats headphones.
At Convocation, new students following Charger Athletics on Instagram were randomly chosen to win Charger gear and Nike sneakers.
Students can expect to see a lot of Nike gear and other giveaways throughout the year, as Crosby said the University has a multi-million-dollar deal with the leading sports brand in the world.
'That's how you build your community...'
As the excitement built inside the large white tent outside Peterson Library on a warm Friday before classes began, Crosby encouraged the Class of 2028 to attend one game a week and cheer on their fellow Chargers.
"That’s how you build your community," he said. "That’s how you find your next best friend."
About an hour later, he energized the Class of 2029 and transfer students at Convocation.
"This is the beginning of our NCAA Division I era," Crosby said. "We are here. We are ready to go. You will graduate from an NCAA Division I institution. There is power in that."
