'Once a Charger; Always a Charger:' Graduate Commencement Speaker Shares Message of Love, Community, and Legacy

A new Recognized Student Organization, the University's Badminton Club is charged up to host its first tournament this weekend for all members of the Charger community.

One of newest Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) at the University of New Haven is the Badminton Club. It was formed in Spring 2023 by the club's president and vice president, Shirdi Kummarakuntla '24 M.S. and Sudhanshu Sunke '24 MBA, respectively, who hope to encourage sports enthusiasts to join the galore of this sport.
The Badminton Club is set to host a badminton tournament, open for all students on Saturday, October 28, at the Beckerman Recreation Center, in co-sponsorship with the African Graduate Student Association. The event will begin at 10 a.m.
The club welcomes Chargers who are experienced as well as newbies with an aspiration to learn all about the sport, as well as those who are looking for an exciting day at the Beckerman Center. The tournament is open for all players from any level and background who can dive in as a single player or merge with doubles or mixed doubles.
The club is all set to provide its tournament members with all the essential equipment for the sport.
"All members of the University community, all you need to do is keep your Beckerman Recreation Center membership handy," says Kummarakuntla. "The tournament is open to all the students, faculty, and staff with no restrictions on the age groups."
There are entry fees, which differ for the number of people participating. The club encourages registration by Friday, October 27, before 6 p.m.
"The tournament is more than just a game," says Rydham Bhanushali '24 MBA, the social media marketing head of the Badminton Club. "Every smash, every serve, every rally in this tournament will be no less than a testament to our club's spirit and passion.
"As a member and an avid badminton player, I see this as a golden chance to bridge bonds, hone skills, and ignite the badminton fever at the University of New Haven," she continued. "We encourage you to step onto the court with us and to create memories that we will cherish forever."
The Badminton Club is actively taking registrations and would love to see your passion in this tournament.
