The West Haven area has received a significant snowfall with 16 inches of snow already on the ground. Due to this and the extensive campus clean-up operations that will need to take place: All in-person day and evening classes scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2026 will transition to being held online or remotely..
Campus operations for residential students will be modified based on expected conditions. Separate messages will be sent from various offices and departments regarding changes to normal hours of operation. Current students, faculty, and staff can find the latest information about operations on myCharger (login required).
Only essential employees, as previously determined by their respective department leaders, should report to campus. All other employees should fulfill the requirements of their role remotely.
Residential students should be prepared to move their vehicles, if requested, for snow removal operations. If you are parked on a public street in West Haven, please move your vehicle off-street as a snow parking ban has been issued prohibiting vehicles from parking on all public streets. A list of off-street parking lots can be found on the City of West Haven’s website.

As a staff assistant for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, I continue to draw on what I learned as a political science major at the University of New Haven. I’m grateful for the relationships I developed with my professors and classmates at the University, as well as the meaningful opportunities I had to learn and grow.

Looking back, my journey at the University of New Haven began at Accepted Students Day when my mom and I visited campus for the first time and met students and professors from the Political Science Department.
After talking with some students and Professor Chris Haynes, my mom and I were sold. They did a good job showing how the program would be worth the time, money, and experience. It was the best decision I could’ve made at the time, and the next four years were worth it.
Growing professionally and in the classroom, I met students who always made conversations worth having during a very interesting time in our country. My favorite part of the political science program was the speaker series run by Dr. Haynes. I’ve always enjoyed politically driven conversation and learning from different perspectives. Interacting with people from different backgrounds made me a more well-rounded person in the field as well.
Overall, the people I met at the University gave me the best four years of my life, and I learned a lot from my classmates and folks in the Myatt Center for Diversity and Inclusion. They gave me professional advice to present my best self and helped me get to where I am today.
After receiving my bachelor’s degree in political science and spending a couple months in the Washington, D.C., area I realized a lot of the things I did in school were all put to use in the real world. I was told U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, who chairs the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, loved my resume because a lot of it dealt with the groundwork that relates to the committee I currently work for.
I encourage students to take advantage of the opportunities that get you into the community, because it really prepared me when it was time to talk about my experience during the interview.

The University of New Haven has signed a master research agreement with Capewell Aerial Systems, a Connecticut aerospace manufacturer, to provide hands-on engineering projects and internships focused on aviation safety and advanced manufacturing.

Kat Swistak '26 reflects on her journey from a small town in New Jersey to the University of New Haven to study forensic science. A marketing minor, she talked about her work with Charger Athletics, including serving as the social media manager for women's rugby and field hockey as well as being part of Chargers Creative, the student-led group that supports social and digital media that generate millions of impressions for the University's Division I athletics teams. This work, as well as her involvement with the Office of Marketing and Communications student content team has broadened her career aspirations to work in content creation. She also talked about her plans for the Women in Sports Club, which she hopes will be her legacy as a Charger. "I'm so glad that I came here. I wouldn't have been able to grow and be who I am without coming here."
