Music is a key component in Irish culture and has a long and complex history leading up to what is globally recognized today as ‘Traditional Irish Music’. The course will explore the history and culture of Ireland through the medium of music, ranging from the 12th century to the present day, and will encompass numerous musical genres, ranging from traditional, classical, folk, ballad, dance music, and contemporary Irish music. Prerequisites: Two one-hundred or one two-hundred level courses in the subject area(s) of instruction. Language of Instruction: English. Credits: 3. Cross listed as MUS332.
