The West Haven area has received a significant snowfall with 16 inches of snow already on the ground. Due to this and the extensive campus clean-up operations that will need to take place: All in-person day and evening classes scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2026 will transition to being held online or remotely..
Campus operations for residential students will be modified based on expected conditions. Separate messages will be sent from various offices and departments regarding changes to normal hours of operation. Current students, faculty, and staff can find the latest information about operations on myCharger (login required).
Only essential employees, as previously determined by their respective department leaders, should report to campus. All other employees should fulfill the requirements of their role remotely.
Residential students should be prepared to move their vehicles, if requested, for snow removal operations. If you are parked on a public street in West Haven, please move your vehicle off-street as a snow parking ban has been issued prohibiting vehicles from parking on all public streets. A list of off-street parking lots can be found on the City of West Haven’s website.

Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, the conservatory arts program of the University of New Haven, today announced a week-long plein air painting residency at historic Mystic Seaport beginning on Oct. 2.

The workshop will include five intensive days of painting from observation on the waterfront, lead by renowned painter Eileen Eder.
Sponsored by the Center for Arts Programming at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, the residency will run from Monday, Oct. 2 to Friday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Eder will provide daily demonstrations on the fundamental principles of painting methods and techniques. In addition to specialized group learning sessions, she also will provide individualized instruction for each student. The accelerated and highly structured learning environment will help students make good decisions and become better painters.
A longtime area resident and Lyme Academy College supporter, Eder received her M.F.A. from the New York Academy of Art. She is an accomplished painter who has won numerous awards both locally and nationally, including top awards for three years running in Artist’s Magazine in the category of Still Life.
A recent top award winner in the Hudson Valley Art Association Juried Exhibit and Solomon’s Plein Air Competition, Eder has exhibited her work at a number of galleries in Connecticut and New York along with juried local and national shows. An experienced instructor, she is known for her positive attitude and works hard to make painting and drawing enjoyable and easy to understand.
In her recent artist statement, Eder writes, "For me, plein-air painting is both exciting and very challenging. Compared to still life it’s like trying to paint a slow moving train that will soon be gone. Composition becomes a greater challenge outdoors as I have to narrow down a big view or modify shapes for a better design. While I try to capture the play of light at whatever time of day I’m working, I also want to give testimony to the character of particular location."
Residency space is limited and students are encouraged to sign up online as soon as possible.

The University of New Haven has signed a master research agreement with Capewell Aerial Systems, a Connecticut aerospace manufacturer, to provide hands-on engineering projects and internships focused on aviation safety and advanced manufacturing.
Charger 360
Kat Swistak '26 reflects on her journey from a small town in New Jersey to the University of New Haven to study forensic science. A marketing minor, she talked about her work with Charger Athletics, including serving as the social media manager for women's rugby and field hockey as well as being part of Chargers Creative, the student-led group that supports social and digital media that generate millions of impressions for the University's Division I athletics teams. This work, as well as her involvement with the Office of Marketing and Communications student content team has broadened her career aspirations to work in content creation. She also talked about her plans for the Women in Sports Club, which she hopes will be her legacy as a Charger. "I'm so glad that I came here. I wouldn't have been able to grow and be who I am without coming here."
