Lyme Illustration Faculty Exhibit Opens Dec. 4 at the Chauncey Stillman Gallery

The Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts of the University of New Haven will feature an illustration exhibit called "Characters Works" beginning on Dec.4.

The exhibition will feature faculty members Jon Siederiadis, Dale Stephanos and David Wenzel. The show will open with a reception in the Chauncey Stillman Gallery on Friday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The exhibit will remain open until Jan. 23, Monday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Chauncey Stillman Gallery. The gallery will be closed on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

On Thursday, Jan. 21, there will be a gallery talk by the illustration faculty in the Chauncey Stillman Gallery from 6-8 p.m. The reception is at 6 p.m. followed by the lecture at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for the lecture and reception. Also featured in the Sill House Gallery will be the 2015 Student Holiday Art Sale with an opening reception scheduled on Friday, Dec. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a variety of oil paintings, pen and ink drawings, etchings, linocuts, lithographs, as well as digital work.
The student sale runs through Dec. 12.

Sideriadis has been an active freelance illustrator, writer, and production designer for more than a decade. He has used his expertise in science fiction, fantasy art and mythological storytelling on a wide variety of commissioned work in feature films, television shows, video games, novels, comics, board games, trading cards, and album covers. He was the co-writer and production designer of the science fiction short film, Blue Lollipop, and production designer of the feature film, Space Pirates.

Sideriadis also worked on monster make-up and costumes for feature length horror films, including Godzilla, Silent Hill and Underworld 2. He is writing and illustrating an original mythology series called Astromythos.

Stephanos has made a successful living as an artist and illustrator for almost 30 years. His unique style of characterizing politicians, authors, musicians, and other public figures have been featured in The New York Times, Newsweek, Mad Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, Golf Digest, The New York Observer, The Washington Post and The Boston Globe.

Stephanos has received awards from the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, American Illustration, Illustrators West, the Maggies, and The Independent Newspaper Association.

Wenzel is the illustrator of the recently published graphic novel, The Hobbit, widely recognized as one of the most successful graphic format adaptations of classic literature. He has illustrated more than 30 books and received many awards.
