UNH is included in the publication’s "Best in the Northeast" list for 2015, which includes 226 institutions in 11 Northeastern states and the District of Columbia.  The list is part of the company's website feature, "2015 Best Colleges: Region by Region" that is posted on PrincetonReview.com.

Robert Franek, The Princeton Review's senior vice president and publisher, said the list was developed to offer guidance by region for the growing number of students and parents seeking colleges closer to home.

"We selected the University of New Haven -- and the other terrific institutions on our regional best lists -- primarily for their excellent academic offerings," Franek said.

The Princeton Review editors narrowed their choices based on institutional data the company collected directly from several hundred colleges in each region, and from staff visits to schools over the years and the opinions of college counselors and advisers whose recommendations the company invites.

"More and more people are turning to the rankings to identify potential colleges," said Kevin Phillips, UNH’s associate vice president for enrollment management. "Our inclusion was due not only to the overall excellence of our university, but also to the high participation rate and strong ratings of UNH by our current students."

Franek said the publication asks students to report to about their experiences on an 80-question survey. "We ask every question that a prospective applicant might want to ask on a campus visit," he said.  "Only schools that permit us to independently survey their students are eligible to be considered for our regional best lists."

The Princeton Review asked students attending the schools to rate their own schools on several issues -- from the accessibility of their professors to the quality of their science lab facilities -- and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and campus life. Comments from surveyed students are quoted in the school profiles on The Princeton Review site.

Some student comments in the profile on UNH are: "all of the professors have real-world experience", and "are able to bring their research experiences into each lecture and provide pertinent examples for everything."  And faculty are "completely supportive and only want the best for their students" and "challenge the students during classes, but will give additional help if requested," and "All the students at UNH are amicable; doors are always being held open and smiles are seen around campus a lot."

The Princeton Review also designated 159 colleges in the Midwest, 124 in the West, and 139 in the Southeast as best in their locales on the company’s "2015 Best Colleges: Region by Region" lists.  Collectively, the 648 colleges named "regional best(s)" constitute about 25 percent of the nation's 2,500 four-year colleges.
