About Nancy

Dr. Savage was named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs in August 2022. She served as deputy provost from March 2022 until her current appointment.

Dr. Savage joined the University of New Haven in 2005. Since then she has enjoyed a distinguished career in which she has taught, led chemistry-emersion camps, and served on numerous University and department committees and in multiple administrative capacities, including associate dean of the Tagliatela College of Engineering and coordinator of the University's chemistry program.

She has served as a mentor for numerous Student Undergraduate Research Fellowship projects. She has been selected as Deputy Provost based on her academic track record, her administrative acumen, and her University and general systems knowledge.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Savage taught at the University of Hartford, the University of Connecticut, the University of Saint Joseph, and Quinnipiac. Her National Research Council postdoctoral fellowship supported her work studying gas sensors with the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

She earned a National Research Council postdoctoral fellowship that supported her work studying gas sensors with the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from Ohio State, where she investigated materials as high-temperature, harsh-condition gas sensors, and received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Dr. Savage’s research interests are within the broad area of materials chemistry. She's investigated new materials for chemical sensing applications, particularly composites of metal oxides with conducting polymers. Additionally, she is interested in applications for materials prepared using the electrospinning method, such as analytical separations.
