Tommy Van Cleave, Ed.D.
Executive Director of International Education
Dr. Tommy Van Cleave joined the University of New Haven in December, 2017. Tommy holds a doctorate, masters degree, and two graduate certificates in Postsecondary Educational Leadership and Policy from Portland State University and a bachelors degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Grand Valley State University. His doctoral research on international service-learning was received an honorable mention by the International Association for the Research on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement for its contribution to the field’s knowledge base. He has authored five book chapters about the design, implementation, and assessment of academic experiences that give students the opportunity to combine academic study and community engagement both internationally and domestically.
Elena Quarti, M.A.
Director, Faculty-Led Study Abroad
Elena joined the University of New Haven in 2009 when she started working at the College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences. During her time working there, she helped the College’s faculty develop and run study abroad programs for Criminal Justice, National Security and Forensic Science majors as well as working with various international delegations visiting the College. Elena led summer study abroad programs to Russia for several years, taking students to criminal justice related organizations (courts, police departments, prosecutors’ offices and law schools). She transferred to the Office of Study Abroad in the Fall 2016. Overall, Elena brings over 20 years of experience in working with international programs and exchanges working both in Europe and the U.S. Prior to joining the university, she worked at the private university in her native town of Pskov (Russia) as a director of international programs establishing new partnerships with universities in Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, Poland, Italy and the US.
Linda Kessler, M.S.
Coordinator-Faculty Development & Support
Linda Kessler joined the University of New Haven in 2007. Prior to joining the division in 2017, she held various positions at the university including, Graduate Enrollment and was the Certification Officer in the Education department. Within the department, Linda helps students with the admissions process, the application software system, and other related questions about the application process and study abroad in general. She also helps coordinate other administrative programs within the department. She received her B.A. in music from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and her M.S. in Education from the University of New Haven.
