ASCE Student Organizations have been constructing and racing concrete canoes at the local level since 1970’s. The first national competition was held in 1988 and teams have been competing annually since then. The concrete canoe competition provides an opportunity for students to gain hands-on, practical experience on designing and working with concrete while enhancing their leadership and project management skills.
The University of New Haven Concrete Canoe team competed at the 2016 New England Region Competition in Boston Massachusetts with Best Stressed, a canoe themed around the success that the team has had with prestress and "best dressed". The team placed 4th overall, receiving 3rd place in the written report, and presenters Cassandra Champagne and Zoe Laird received 2nd place with their oral presentation.
