Scholarships

Application Process:
  • To be considered for one of our academic scholarships, all you need to do is apply for full-time undergraduate admission. If accepted, you will automatically be considered for an academic scholarship.
  • Students who apply under Early Action I and are accepted are given priority consideration for all merit-based scholarships.
  • Award decisions will be based upon your academic credentials at the time of your admissions decision.
  • Students must have a completed application for admission on file by May 1 for the fall semester or January 1 for the spring semester in order to be considered for an academic scholarship.
  • Awards are based upon the availability of funds.

The following are awarded at the discretion of the University of New Haven and, unless otherwise noted, require no special application. Students who qualify for these scholarships will be notified by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the time of their acceptance to the University.


Presidential Scholarship ($16,000 - $20,000 per academic year)
A student who has achieved academic success in high school and on the SAT or ACT is considered for this scholarship. The Presidential Scholarship varies depending on the combination of the applicant's SAT/ACT score and cumulative GPA.  Awards range from $16,000 - $20,000 per academic year.

The Presidential Scholarship is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree and a B (3.0) cumulative grade point average. 

Distinguished Scholar Awards ($12,000 - $15,000 per academic year)
Students who have achieved academic success in high school but have not achieved the SAT or ACT requirements for the Freshman Presidential Scholarship are eligible for this award.  The Distinguished Scholar Award varies depending on the student's SAT or ACT score and GPA. The award ranges from $12,000 - $15,000.

The Distinguished Scholar Award is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree and a B (3.0) cumulative grade point average.

Charger Award ($6,000 - $11,000 per academic year)
This award is presented to students who exhibit strong and consistent academic performance, but do not qualify for one of the other academic awards (Presidential, Distinguished Scholarship, Academic Achievement).  This scholarship is awarded by the Scholarship Committee of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. 

This award is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree and a B (3.0) cumulative grade point average.


Writing Award ($1,000 - $3,000 per academic year)
This award is intended to recognize students who perform exceptionally well on the writing component of the SAT or ACT.  Students who perform exceptionally well on the writing component of the SAT or ACT are recognized with an award ranging from $1,000 - $3,000 annually. This is awarded in addition to one of the following scholarships: Presidential Scholarship, Distinguished Scholar Award, or Charger Award.  

This award is guaranteed for your first year and renewable each year provided you remain a full-time undergraduate student while maintaining satisfactory progress towards a bachelor's degree and a B (3.0) cumulative grade point average.
