Register for New Student Orientation (SOAR)

Before you start your amazing journey at University of New Haven, you will be going through an orientation program known as Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR).

SOAR is a mandatory program that allows you to meet fellow classmates, familiarize yourself with University programs and services, as well as provide an oversight of academic and student life. One of the perks of attending this program is that you will receive your schedule of classes for the fall.

First-Year Students

All students - including commuters - stay overnight in a residence hall.

Family can also attend SOAR - they will come on the same date that you choose, but will attend a separate Family Orientation program. Family do not stay on campus; they make their own overnight arrangements. Please see the blue box on this page for details.

Transfer Students

Transfer SOAR is a one-day event that starts at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 4:30 p.m.  There is no formal family program for Transfer SOAR.

Info for Families

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS: When the student registers for SOAR, they can add up to two adults to attend our Family Orientation program at no additional charge.

Due to space and logistical limitations, additional family members will be charged $35 per person at check-in on the first day.

TRANSFER STUDENTS: Events at Transfer SOAR are geared specifically to the transfer students and there is no formal family program. We recommend any family planning to accompany the student to campus find alternate activities in the local area, or arrange meetings with offices on campus if they have questions or need information.
