Welcome!

The Pre-Health Professions (PHP) Scholars Program at the University of New Haven provides undergraduate students with a rigorous four-year experience that will help guide them to the right health professions career or graduate program. Our program is special because it is a selective, structured, and clinically focused program to give students the knowledge and skills needed to be competitive for a wide range of healthcare careers and graduate programs.

Who participates in this program?

Students of every major and course of study can participate in the Pre-Health Professions program. If you think that a career in a health-related field might be in your future, the Pre-Health Professions Scholars Program is the place for you to start exploring your future.

What is the purpose of this program?

Students who successfully complete this program will have the grades, the coursework, the clinical experiences, and the in-depth knowledge of healthcare that can serve as the launch pad for pursuing the healthcare job or program you want. You will receive mentoring, academic advising and other support as you go through the program.

What are the main features of the PHP Scholars Program?

Our program focuses on the 4 Cs:

1. Coursework: Explore a range of topics about the healthcare field and study in-depth the areas you choose.

2. Co-Curricular and Clinical Experience: Get certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, participate in clubs, and join living learning communities (LLCs).

3. Career Coaching: Clarify your post-graduation goals with faculty and staff who know the rapidly growing and changing healthcare field.

4. Capstone Experience: Demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have gained in the program through a research project, service project or internship.

How do I complete the program?

Students must complete their undergraduate degree with a 3.3 cumulative GPA or higher. PHP Scholars must also earn 30 points by completing coursework, extracurricular activities, leadership positions, and internships.
