More than 1,400 members of the University of New Haven’s will accept their degrees during two Commencement ceremonies on May 13.

The president of the Class of 2017, completed a double major in national security studies and legal studies. A member of our Honors Program, she worked in the University’s Center for Analytics and interned in the United States Attorney’s Office in New Haven. In the fall, she will begin her studies at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University.
A management major and entrepreneurship minor, is the epitome of perseverance, having overcome a significant visual disability. He created an app called QuickQast with a classmate, and they ultimately sold it to a company based in Silicon Valley. He was offered a position as a programmer at Snapchat, the fast-growing social media network, which he has turned down in order to pursue a master’s degree in management information systems at Harvard.
Carla earned a master’s degree in forensic technology. A native of Canada, she pursed her bachelor’s degree in Australia. As a graduate student, she served as an investigations intern at in the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in both Connecticut and New York. She will begin her career as a medicolegal death investigator with the Douglas County Coroner's Office in Castle Rock, Colorado, where she will be responsible for processing death scenes and assisting with autopsies. Perhaps most impressive is the fact that she was offered this opportunity more than three months before graduating.
Es-pranza majored in history. As a student, she interned at the New York Historical Society and was a member of our Honors Program. An active student leader, she served as president of the University’s chapter of NAACP, which she said, showed her that she "could make a difference and that I should never be afraid to step up and stand up." She will pursue a master’s degree in American studies at Columbia.
A genetics and biotechnology major, conducted an intensive research project, examining the potential of using chlorine dioxide in chemotherapy. She later interned at a lab at Yale. A native of Venezuela, she is applying to Ph.D. programs in molecular biology and biochemistry and hopes to start her own research lab one day to develop more affordable medical alternatives for countries in need.
A mechanical engineering major, interned for two years at Proton Onsite, the global leader in hydrogen generation. He was a member of the University’s Honors Program and spent his senior year as part of a group that collaborated with Brash Engines, a local company that has developed a patented hybrid technology for converting heat to power. In the fall, Dylan will begin pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
A psychology major, served this year as the president of the Undergraduate Student Government Association. She is a graduate of the Honors Program, served as diversity peer educator, and interned at a children’s psychiatric hospital. She, like many of her classmates, she says her experiences as a student have "completely transformed" her as a person. In the fall, she will begin pursuing a master’s degree in forensic psychology at George Washington University.
Ariel accepts her master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology. She served as a graduate assistant in the University’s Career Development Center, helping to organize career fairs, conducting mock interviews, and assisting students with their resumes. She interned with Target, where she will begin her career in her native Montana as an executive team leader in human resources.
A communication, film and media studies major, completed three internships as a student, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the communications office for New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, at Connecticut Public Broadcasting, and at the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation. She served as president of the Communications Club and created her own late-night talk show that was broadcast on the University’s TV station. Veronica is in the process of launching her own videography and photography business.
