Article Body

What:  Dr. Matthew Griffiths, professor of physics at the University of New Haven (UNH), will present a lecture on the incorporation of science into oil rig design through the development of engineering design code. Griffiths will also elaborate on the importance of oil rig safety and design to conform to standards set by the government. The lecture is fee and open to the public

When:  Mar. 11, 2008, 3 p.m.

Where:  Marvin K. Peterson Library, Upper Level, UNH Campus

Details:  Dr. Griffiths earned both his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in physics from the University of Edinburgh completing his doctoral thesis on wave breaking. From 1985-1987, Griffiths was the recipient of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) award. Griffiths worked as a project officer at the U.K. Atomic Energy Authority where he interfaced between government agencies, oil companies, engineers, and scientists.
