The University of New Haven (UNH) will present its fifth annual Holocaust Remembrance Event at 3 p.m. in the UNH Library on Tuesday, April, 29. The keynote speaker, Martin Schiller, '64 is a Holocaust survivor who has written of his experiences in a book entitled "Bread, Butter and Sugar: A Boy's Journey Through the Holocaust and Postwar Europe." Schiller, a native of Poland, was released 62 years ago from Buchenwald, the second of two concentration camps he had been sent to as a boy.
In addition to remarks by Schiller, the program of remembrance will include a reading of names of those who perished in the Holocaust who are in some way related to a member of the UNH community. The ceremony will include the lighting of ceremonial candles, the chanting of a memorial blessing, a moment of silent contemplation and musical accompaniment. All members of the community are invited to attend the event. For more information, call 203-932-7095.
