From Rum to Chocolate: UNH Non-Credit Summer Courses Offer Food Adventures from Around the Globe
The Hospitality and Tourism Management program will offer five “food and drink adventure courses” for adults focusing on everything from rum to chocolate. The non-credit courses will be taught by UNH faculty. All will feature tastings and some will involve cooking.

New Academic Building Will House Two Classrooms, MathZone
A new academic building is under construction on Pruden Street, north of Echlin Hall. It has two classrooms, a computer lab, conference room, faculty offices and reception area and will be home to the university’s new MathZone program. The building will also feature fire science laboratory space.

Victor Markiw, member of UNH's music faculty, will embark on a new adventure: a semester in the Ukraine as a 2013 Fulbright Scholar. He will study Ukrainian composers, teach music theory and lecture on American music. The Ukrainian Fulbright office is working on securing a host institution.

Seven UNH students studying Mandarin and taking part in a modern version of the pen pal exchange with eight students from Sanjiang University in Nanjing, China. Rather than pick up a pen and write, they Skype for an hour each week—the first half hour in Mandarin, the second in English.

Interactive Mathematical Modeling and Tumor–Immune Dynamics Lab, 4/19
Why is it that one patient’s cancer returns after some time, while another patient can remain cancer free? After a century of controversy, the notion that the immune system regulates cancer development, dormancy, and progression is experiencing a new resurgence. In this lab, we will develop mathematical models of tumor-immune interactions associated with the cancer immunoediting hypothesis and we will use these models to make predictions about tumor dormancy.

UNH Hosts Free Workshop for High School Creative Writers 4/13
Connecticut high school students are invited to learn how to write poetry and/or fiction in a free workshop at UNH on Saturday, April 13. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Moulton Lounge in Bartels Hall, and includes lunch and a tour of the main campus. The fiction session will be taught by Christopher Dowd, UNH assistant professor of English, and the poetry session will be taught by poet Jamaal May.

Negrura Peruana Brings Its Original Afro-Peruvian Beats To UNH
Negrura Peruana performs the music and dance of Peru’s African and criollo population. The group has performed at a number of high-profile venues including with Eva Ayllón (Afro-Peruvian icon and Grammy nominee), and throughout the growing Peruvian community of Connecticut. In 2005 they were invited to the Library of Congress American Folklife Center as part of the Homegrown Concert Series.

Thanksgiving Celebration
Students are invited to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 4:30 p.m. in Marketplace in Bartels Hall. Students with a meal plan should bring their student ID. The cost is $10 for students without a meal plan. Students are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item that will be used in food baskets for the underprivileged.
