Students are invited to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 4:30 p.m. in Marketplace in Bartels Hall. Students with a meal plan should bring their student ID. The cost is $10 for students without a meal plan. Students are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item that will be used in food baskets for the underprivileged.

UNH Raises More Than $10 Million for Second Year in a Row

UNH announced today it raised more than $10 million in gifts and grants for the second year in a row. In FY 2011, the university raised $10.5 million—the largest amount in its history. In FY 2012, which ended on June 30, 2012, UNH’s fundraising totaled $10.4 million.

Elm City Beat, December 23, 2011: Brendan Muldowney '04 BA has been nominated for a Grammy award in the category of “Best Engineered Album – Non-Classical.” The Best Engineered Album is voted on by professionals in the music recording field. Michael Kaloyanides, professor and head of the UNH music department, remembers Muldowney. “Brendan took several classes with me and he was always at the top of the class with the highest grade point average and with the highest quality work. Obviously in this case, dedication to academic work paid off,” he said.

New Haven Register, April 13, 2012: A helicopter landed at Carrigan School’s baseball field Friday morning to pick up 26 ROTC students from the University of New Haven before a crowd of kids, Carrigan staff, police officers and firefighters. UNH wanted to give the school’s fifth- and sixth-graders a chance to see a helicopter up close and talk with ROTC members. The U.S. Army Chinook helicopter was on the ground for about an hour before transported the students who are part of the Reserve Officers Training Corps for field training at the Stones Ranch Military Reservation in East Lyme.

WTNH [VIDEO], April 9, 2012: 1,100 backpacks are on display at UNH to commemorate the 1,100 students who commit suicide each year in the United States. "All of them have a story. There are a few hundred that have a personal meaning to them, pictures and words from families and friends. It's heartbreaking," said UNH sophomore Marissa Feldman. The national organization Active Minds has organized this traveling exhibit called Send Silence Packing all in an effort to create an awareness about depression and mental illness on campus.

NBC Connecticut, April 9, 2012: Four entrepreneurial high school seniors from New England are the top winners in the University of New Haven's College of Business Dean's Scholarship Challenge competition (http://www.facebook.com/DeansChallenge). The four students, who will enter UNH in the fall, are part of a national Facebook competition. Each of them will be awarded full-tuition scholarships for four years. The prize is worth more than $120,000 for each and represents a total commitment by UNH of nearly half a million dollars.

New Haven Register, April 8, 2012: For the past few months, UNH practitioner in residence Stephen Spignesi has led a scholarly expedition to Titanic, the ill-fated ocean liner that famously sank 100 years ago this month. His students explored the history, the hype and the tragedy itself. Spignesi is convinced the Titanic tragedy still fascinates us because it sank on its maiden voyage, in an era when people were convinced that mankind’s endeavors could only get bigger, better, bolder and more opulent. “To this day, the sinking has come to represent this sense of society, industry and culture being taken down a notch,” Spignesi says.
