System Engineering

About the Program

System engineering, as a formal engineering discipline, traces its history to the 1950s, but promises to play an even greater role in the twenty-first century given the advances in information technology, global competition, and the trends in globalization. It is one of the most flexible and broad-based disciplines in engineering, and is poised to provide balanced solutions to diverse and complex problems primarily related to product development and commercialization processes.

The development of the system engineering program has been a team effort encompassing various constituencies—future employers of our program graduates, students, alumni, business/industry professionals and, of course, our faculty.

Unique Features

The program culminates in a final industry-sponsored project, consisting of six credit hours of design experience spanning both semesters of the senior year. Students will work in teams of various sizes depending on the scope and nature of the project. Oral presentations to the industry project sponsor and faculty as well as written reports are required.

UNH system engineering graduates will have a competitive advantage in understanding products, processes, and operations through the application of mathematical/stochastic and simulation modeling and analysis techniques. In today's knowledge-driven global economy, these skills provide cost-effective solutions to operational or design problems, and are also vital to the formulation of business/industry strategies.

The UNH system engineering program is the only program of its kind in Connecticut.
