The Office of Graduate and International Student Life (OGISL) is the primary resource for graduate and international students at the University of New Haven. The office provides personal support, including navigating campus life and adapting to student life in the United States. Orientation is hosted at the beginning of each term for new graduate and international students.

University Campus Welcome Center
The university campus Welcome Center is located on campus in the German Club, and is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. starting January 03, 2024. Please only visit the Center during these times. Outside of these days and times, please go directly to the accommodation you have arranged.
The Welcome Center is here to provide a warm welcome and to process your official documents; such as transcripts, passports, and visas, and to assist in completing the University Immigration Services (UIS) check-in and referrals to relevant offices as needed. You must visit the Welcome Center and present your papers before you go to orientation or classes. John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
GO Airport ShuttleThis is a University-discounted service for accepted students. You can bring up to 3 bags. You must book 6 days prior to travel. You must arrive at JFK by 6 p.m. You will need to use a credit card to make your reservation using the link below. This discount applies from Jan. 1 to Jan. 20. This service will take you either to the University campus (Maxcy Hall) or to our discounted hotel accommodation, which you will have booked prior to travel. If you are traveling to Maxcy Hall, you will then need to book a taxi, Uber/Lyft, or friend to transport you to your final destination.
TrainTake the AirTrain from your JFK terminal to Jamaica Station: At Jamaica Station, transfer to the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and take a train to Penn Station in Manhattan. This is a convenient and relatively fast option.
Penn Station to New Haven: At Penn Station, take an Amtrak to New Haven Union Station.
Estimated Time: 2.5 – 3.5 hours

Estimated Cost: $40BusOne can take the AirTrain from JFK Airport to Jamaica Station. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) can be taken from Jamaica Station to Penn Station in Manhattan. From Penn Station, one can either walk or take the subway (A, C, or E train) to the Port Authority Bus Terminal.
Greyhound, Megabus, or Peter Pan Bus can be taken from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City to New Haven Union Station. These bus companies provide service from New York City to New Haven. Ensure to check the bus schedules and book tickets in advance if possible.

Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR New Jersey)
There is no GO Shuttle service, but the train is the best option, it is very simple to use and affordable.
TrainNewark Airport to Newark Penn Station: You can take the AirTrain from Newark Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport Train Station (located on the airport grounds).
From there, board a New Jersey Transit (NJT) train on the Northeast Corridor Line to Newark Penn Station.
Newark Penn Station to New Haven Union Station: At Newark Penn Station, you will need to take an Amtrak train to New Haven Union Station. You can check the Amtrak website or app for schedules and ticket prices.
Estimated Time: 2 – 2.75 hours
Distance: 80 - 85 miles
Estimated Cost: $55BusTake the AirTrain from Newark Liberty International Airport to Newark Liberty Airport Train Station. This is a free service that connects the airport to the train station.
From Newark Liberty Airport Train Station, take an NJ Transit train to Newark Penn Station. You may need to purchase a separate NJ Transit ticket for this part of the journey.
At Newark Penn Station, you can take an NJ Transit train to New York Penn Station.
Take a Greyhound, Megabus, or Peter Pan Bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City to New Haven Union Station. These bus companies provide service from New York City to New Haven. Be sure to check the bus schedules and book your tickets in advance if possible.

Boston Logan International Airport
TrainLogan Airport to South Station (Boston): From Logan Airport, take the Silver Line SL1 bus to South Station. The Silver Line is a free bus service that connects the airport to South Station.
South Station to New Haven Union Station: At South Station, you can board an Amtrak train that goes to New Haven Union Station. The primary Amtrak service that connects Boston to New Haven is the Northeast Regional service, but you may also have the option of taking the Acela Express, which is faster but more expensive.

Estimated Cost: $70BusTake the Silver Line SL1 to South Station. This is a convenient and affordable option. The Silver Line is part of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and connects the airport to South Station.
You can take an intercity bus service like Greyhound, Megabus, or Peter Pan Bus from Boston's South Station to New Haven Union Station. These bus companies provide services between the two cities. You can check their schedules and book your tickets in advance online or at the bus terminal.

For fully online students attendance for this event is not mandatory, however you are welcome to attend.

From December 16, 2023, through January 23, 2024, the University has secured a discounted rate for temporary housing at the following hotels in the area for our new international students.
