Charger 360 - Season 4, Episode 22: Gabby Teel ’26

Gabby Teel ’26, an exercise science major and member of the Chargers track and field team, reflects on her decision to come to the University. “I came up here and fell in love.” She shared how she balances her academic and athletic commitments as well as earning an NEC title in the triple jump this year after qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championships last year. She also shared how, as an introvert, she put an emphasis from the start of her time on campus to talking to everyone, building connections and getting involved on campus. “The people here are so welcoming.”

Charger 360 - Season 4, Episode 21: Christine Shakespeare

Christine Shakespeare, vice provost for policy & program coordinator, shares her family’s background in higher education, including her father, who served as a professor and administrator at Hofstra for 30 years. “Our family was very involved in the lives of students,” she said. She reflected on her career in and out of academia, which included working for the Governor’s Office of Volunteerism in Texas, where she helped launch a statewide initaitve supporting community engagement in higher education. She also discussed the development of Charger 11, which helps students capture and convey the competencies they build as Chargers that are essential to long-term success. In addition, she talked about her role as co-chair of the University’s Commencement Committee and the community-wide involvement it takes to host Commencement on campus. “We all do it together,” she said. “It gives everyone a sense of pride. This is a moment the University has to showcase itself.”

Charger 360 - Season 4, Episode 20: Sereana Vulaona ’27 and Coach Emily Record

Women’s rugby player Sereana Vulaona ’27, a criminal justice major, and head coach Emily Record discuss their journeys to the University. Sereana, who only started playing rugby her senior year of high school, joined the show from California, where she is training with the Team USA rugby team. “Sereana works really hard,” said Coach Record. “It is a testament to her work ethic that she is able to go out and perform.” Sereana shared what she enjoys most about being a Charger, and Coach gave an overview of her recruiting pitch, the team and the sport, and the difference between the formats with seven and 15 players on the field as well as what it takes to succeed in rugby.
