Doug Whiting was named associate vice president for marketing and public relations in December 2019. An experienced communications professional with an extensive background in higher education, he has a proven track record spearheading marketing and public relations initiatives and serving as a chief spokesperson.
Prior to joining the University, he was vice president for marketing at Johnson & Wales University, where he served for seven years. There, he led a successful strategic awareness and perception initiative to rebrand the University beyond its culinary reputation; restructured the marketing office to adapt to new responsibilities including internal, parent, admissions and student recruitment communications; and oversaw a complete redesign of the University's website. He was a member of the team that developed JWU’s current strategic plan.
He also has been vice president for university relations at Pace University, associate vice president for public relations at Fairfield University, and director of public affairs at Boston College, where he earned his bachelor's degree in English and communications.
In addition, he previously was director of communications for the Connecticut House of Representatives' Democratic Caucus and press secretary for the Speaker of the House for the Connecticut General Assembly. Earlier in his career, he was press secretary and communications director for John Kerry’s successful 1990 U.S. Senate reelection campaign.
