Study Abroad in Prato, Italy for the Spring 2022 Semester
Dear Students and Faculty,
I am pleased to report that following significant planning and comprehensive discussions with the University’s COVID Task Force, the leadership team in Prato, and public health authorities in Italy, we are confident that we will be able to resume activity at the University’s campus in Prato, Italy, for the Spring 2022 semester.
At this time, the plan is for students to begin online classes from their homes in January, before departing for Italy in early February. Students will return to the United States in May and complete final exams remotely from their homes. The duration of the time in Italy will be approximately 89 days.
Similar to Connecticut, throughout the United States, and across the globe, in Italy the expectation is that with widespread vaccination and health strategies in place to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the country will be open to tourism and study abroad. This enables us to resume offering some of the signature curricular and co-curricular opportunities that have become staples of this authentic and immersive Italian experience.
The University requires that all students who will study at the Prato Campus in Spring 2022 be fully vaccinated before departure. This is critical to help safeguard student health and ensure the success of the academic components of the semester. Additional details about opportunities for vaccination are available on myCharger. The public safety plan developed for the Prato Campus stipulates that face coverings must be worn at all times in indoor school spaces. This policy will continue to be assessed on a regular basis.
As the more than 1,000 students who have studied at our Prato campus since it opened in 2012 can attest, the opportunity to spend time living in and learning about a new culture can be a transformational experience. Above all, we are committed to ensuring that the students who travel to Prato for the Spring 2022 semester have a rewarding and safe experience.

While it is anticipated that other Study Abroad or Study Away opportunities will also be available in 2022, these determinations will be made on program-by-program basis.
Thank you for your continued resilience and resolve and for your ongoing commitment to pursuing new opportunities during this dynamic time.
