First Year Students

UNH Undergraduate Admissions

The University of New Haven has a rolling admissions process. This means that students can apply for admisson at any time throughout the year and recieve a decision shortly after submission of all required materials.

Although there is not a particular deadline, it is recommended that students apply as early as possible since space in some of our academic programs tend to fill up quickly. Typically the Office of Undergraduate Admissions begins to review applications as early as September 1 for admission the following fall.

Students have the option of applying directly to the major of their choice or applying as Undeclared. Applications for admission are considered complete and will be reviewed once the following materials are received:

  1. Application – Students can apply with the UNH Application for Undergraduate Admission , the Common Application , or the Universal Application . The most convenient way to apply is online using any of the three forms; however, students can fill out our paper copy and mail it to:

    Office of Undergraduate Admissions
    University of New Haven
    300 Boston Post Road
    West Haven, CT 06516

Apply online and save on the Application Fee.

Please note that equal consideration is given for admission to students who submit the UNH Application, Common Application, or Universal Application.

  2. Application Fee - The application fee when applying for admission is $75.00 for students submitting a paper copy and $25.00 if submitting online. These fees are the same if submitting the UNH Application, Common Application, or Universal Application.

  3. Official high school transcript – Submit an official copy of your secondary/high school transcript to the Undergraduate Admissions Office. A satisfactory General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is acceptable in place of a high school diploma. (Note: The Right of Privacy Act requires that you must request your official transcripts. UNH cannot request them on your behalf.)

  4. Official SAT or ACT scores– Submit official Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) scores from the testing center. Our SAT code is #3663. For further information about the SAT go to www.collegeboard.com. Our ACT code is #0576. For further information about the ACT go to www.act.org. Test scores submitted by your high school will not be accepted.

  5. A personal essay – A personal essay is required. The essay is an opportunity for us to get to know you as a person, not just your grades and test scores. It also gives us an example of how you express yourself and demonstrates your ability to organize your thoughts. The personal essay should be between 250 and 500 words on a topic of your choice.

  6. One Letter of Recommendation – Submit at least one letter of recommendation from an academic source. An academic source can include a teacher, principal, or guidance counselor who can attest to a student's academic capabilities and ability to work at the college level.
