Hug a Senior Today
UNH Practitioner-in-Residence Gary Fetzer decided one day that because today’s youth typically do not like to touch senior citizens, he would offer extra credit to students in his Urban Government class who hugged four senior citizens – no friends or family allowed – and explained how it felt. One student’s reaction: “It felt quite strange to go up to random people and hug them, but I don’t think they cared a bit. They all seemed to love it.” Lesson learned: Get out this holiday season and hug a senior, or two or three.

Faculty Take Part in UNH
Media Relations Workshop

On Thursday, Dec. 11, Bob McDonald, Jim Dull, Guillermo Mager, Greg Blosick, Demissew Ejara, and Lee College Administrative Assistant Tanaya Hilton joined the Office of Public Affairs for a quick media-training workshop for faculty members. They learned more about the media relations process at UNH and how their research and students’ projects can be promoted in the local, regional and national press, as well as to the University community. As respected members of the community, UNH faculty members are called upon by journalists to share their expertise. In responding, faculty obtain greater public awareness of their achievements and the University’s mission is spotlighted, which boosts its image, helps in student recruitment and retention and with fundraising.
