UNH Wins Grant
For Biofuel Research
The state awarded three universities - UNH, Yale and UConn - grants for research into biofuels through its Fuel Diversification Grant Program. UNH will receive $135,276 to identify species of algae from Long Island Sound that could be cultivated to produce biodiesel. Principal Investigator and Associate Professor and Coordinator of UNH’s Marine Biology Program Carmela Cuomo, Ph.D., and Co-Principal Research Investigator Dr. Eddie Luzik are leading the study. UNH Emeriti Board Member Bob Wilson Dies
A member of the University’s Board of Governors since 1977 and an emeriti member since 1999, Bob Wilson died December 3 at the age of 88. The family is planning a memorial service at a later date. Condolences may be sent to his widow, Marguerite (‘Poggy’) Wilson, 150 Cook Hill Road, Apartment 5102, Cheshire, Ct. 06410.
New! New Haven Shuttles To Transport
Shore Line East Commuters About Town
For those of you who live on the shoreline and want to come into New Haven on Saturdays, the Greater New Haven Convention and Visitors Bureau will be funding holiday shuttles on the remaining Saturdays before Christmas: Dec. 13 and Dec. 20. The shuttles will pick up Shore Line East passengers at Union Station and provide free rides to downtown New Haven destinations. Click here for times and dropoff points.

Experiential Education at a High
UNH mathematics major Gregory Brown presented a paper “Means in n-dimensions: exploring equalities of numbers through certain equations,” at the Northeastern Sectional Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America at Bentley College in November. Co-authors were Ramesh Sharma, a UNH physics and mathematics professor, Harissou Biao, a former UNH student, and Jia We, a post-doctoral researcher at Yale.
Green Vehicles: Learn about Hybrid Cars
The Alvine Engineering Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program is hosting a presentation on “Green Vehicles: How Plug-in Hybrids are Different from Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.” The event takes place from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. this Wednesday, Dec. 10 in Room B120, Schumann Auditorium, Buckman Hall, Tagliatela College of Engineering. The coat drive is sponsored by the UNH Accounting Department and student Accounting Club in conjunction with the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants. The coats will be distributed by CSCPA to shelters throughout Connecticut.

Crime Scene Investigation
Learn what it takes to investigate a crime scene. UNH presents a Crime Scene Investigation course from the “Dr. Lee and Friends” series from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 29 in Dodds Theatre. The course is open to students and the public, and signups are being accepted now. Famed forensic scientist Dr. Henry C. Lee will discuss what it takes to become a crime scene investigator, what happens at a crime scene and much more. Price is $50 for students with ID and $100 for adults. New Scholarship Announced
The Lint Center for National Security Studies has created a memorial scholarship honoring the legacy of U.S. Army Counterintelligence Special Agent, Staff Sergeant Richard Eaton Jr. Sgt. Eaton was the son of the late Rick Eaton, who worked in the University’s Advancement Office,.and Sharon Noble Eaton. Sgt. Eaton, who received a Bronze Star for his service, died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq in 2003. The newly created fund will award $1,000 to a student pursuing scholastic study in fields related to alliance building, counterintelligence, cultural understanding and national security.
