Professional Development Breakfast Seminar
Faculty and staff are invited to the University’s first Professional Development Breakfast Seminar – coffee and Danish included – from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, on “Maintaining Motivation and Morale During Change and Uncertainty,” a lecture by Assistant Professor Dr. Stuart Sidle, director of UNH’s Industrial/Organizational Psychology program. Dr. Mehlman Reflects on Teaching in
South Korea at Faculty Brown Bag Lunch
UNH Mathematics Professor Marc Mehlman will talk about his experience teaching in South Korea this past summer at a Faculty Brown Bag Lunch at noon Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Meeting Rooms A and B, Bartels Hall, the campus center. A sandwich, side dish and beverage will be provided for faculty participants, who should sign in at checkout with the cashier in Bartels Dining Room. New Associate Dean Announced for Tagliatela College
The Tagliatela College of Engineering announced this past Tuesday that Dr. Ali Montazer, professor of Industrial Engineering, was appointed Associate Dean. Please join the UNH community in congratulating him on his promotion.
UNH to Induct Five into Athletics Hall of Fame
The University of New Haven will induct five former Chargers into the Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, January 25, 2008 at a ceremony at Race Brook Country Club. UNH invites alumni and friends of Charger Athletics to join in this special occasion, honoring some of the best in program history. The cocktail hour will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the induction ceremony at 7:30 p.m. For more information on tickets, please call 203.932.7016 or ext. 7017 or e-mail szawacki@newhaven.edu. New Database Trial for Humanities
The library is offering a trial period through the end of 2007 of Humanities Index, a bibliographic database that cites articles from English-language periodicals. The database covers some of the most well-known scholarly journals and lesser-known specialized magazines dealing with a wide variety of subjects from archaeology to the performing arts. Up-to-date subject headings and “WilsonLink” are two other user-friendly features.
Roehampton Diary: Culture Shock
Devin McDonald, a visual arts major from Columbia, Ct., is participating in the University’s new Freshman Semester Abroad program at London’s Roehampton University. Click here to read her story.
A Loss to the Community
Milly Bohannah, a beloved and respected member of the University community for more than 28 years, died this past week following a long illness. An adjunct faculty member of the English Department, Milly also worked as an academic skills counselor in the Office of Academic Services and tutored in writing in the Center for Learning Resources. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women of Christ Episcopal Church, Christ Episcopal Church, 526 Amity Road, Bethany, CT 06524.

Kaplan New Haven Center is seeking instructors to assist in both ESL tutoring and SAT, GRE and GMAT classes. The ESL program typically requires a five-hour commitment per week. Federal Agents Discuss Law Enforcement Careers
Students enrolled in the the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice packed a recent presentation by former FBI, DEA and ATF agents regarding careers in federal law enforcement. The agents, who serve on the University’s International Justice and Security Concentration’s Public Safety and Federal Advisory Board, include the head of Otis Security and Retired FBI Agent Mike Clark; Retired DEA Agent Mike Priore; Retired ATF Agent John Fretts; and computer forensics examiner and Retired FBI Agent Thomas Buchanan. Presentations by members of the State Department and United Nations are being planned for the spring semester, according to Criminal Justice Professor Jim Monahan, who developed the International Justice and Security Concentration.

‘Tis the Season
Community Service is still collecting the various items needed for its Second Annual Gift Drive to be distributed among 15 families in the area. Donations are due Monday, Dec. 10 to the Community Service Office. To receive information on a child or family in need, send an e-mail to communityservice@newhaven.edu.
Toys for Tots
The Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Corps, is holding a toy drive from Nov. 28 through Dec. 13. Donations will be accepted in the lobby of Bartels Hall, the campus center, and should include a new, unwrapped toy in the $5 to $10 range. Gifts are for both boys and girls from infants up to 12 years. For more information, contact Rosalie Swift at ext. 7213.
Spring Musical Auditions
Auditions will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 in the Upper Student Lounge of Bartels Hall, the campus center, for the spring musical “Zombies from the Beyond.” Four women and three men will be chosen, in addition to a six-to-10-person chorus. One man will need to tap dance; an accordion player is also needed for the orchestra. Scripts are available at the front desk of the Marvin K. Peterson Library.
