Interim Dean Named for the College of Business
Dr. Jerry Allen has accepted an appointment as interim dean of UNH’s College of Business beginning Dec. 1. A professor in the Department of Communication & Marketing, he has served as chair of the Department of Communication & Marketing, chair of the Department of Communication, acting dean of the School of Business (1994-95), and dean of Graduate Studies & Professional Development (1995-98).
Prize-Winning Pianist To Perform
Renowned pianist José Garcia-León will perform in a concert for all ages at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 in the Alumni Lounge at Bartels Hall, the campus center. More information: Ext. 7452.
A Party to Christen the Center

UNH Honors Our Nation’s Heroes
This past Veteran’s Day, current students, alumni, faculty, and friends of UNH were honored with the receipt of the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal, given by Dr. Linda S. Schwartz, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Click here to see the list of those who were honored.
UNH’s Experiential Education Efforts Recognized
UNH sent 10 representatives to the National Society of Experiential Education National Conference earlier this month, five of whom made presentations. Presenters include: Pauline Schwartz presenting on Faculty Mentored Undergraduate Research; Bill Adams on the UNH Freshman Abroad Program; Christy Somerville on “Incorporating NSEE Standards of Practice into the Internship experience;” and Ali Montazer, Christie Boronico, and student Marquis Bell on “Institutionalizing Experiential Education/The UNH Experience.” The UNH Experiential Education Academy class of ‘08 members Fadia Narchet, Alex Guzman, Arleen Anderson, and Sally Anastos participated in various sessions. UNH was recognized at the conference as having the most faculty/staff certified in Experiential Education.

New Library Trial Database for Sociology Research
The Library currently has a database trial for SocINDEX™ with Full Text from EBSCOHost, a comprehensive sociology research database that includes topics such as abortion, criminology and criminal justice, demography, ethnic and racial studies, gender studies, marriage and family, social psychology, social structure, social work, socio-cultural anthropology, sociological history, research and theory, substance abuse and other addictions, violence, and many others. SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for 428 "core" coverage journals dating to 1908, and 163 "priority" coverage journals, as well as full text for more than 735 books and monographs, and for 6,785 conference papers. Any database on preview is accessible from the Library’s home page at: http://library.newhaven.edu. Click on “TRIALS” on the left-hand side of the page under “Databases.” Enter your 16-digit UNH ID number. The databases on preview are toward the top of the screen.
UNH Presents Acclaimed Pianist
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts presents internationally acclaimed pianist Meehyun Ahn, an adjunct professor of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences, at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 in the Alumni Lounge at Bartels Hall, the campus center. More information: ext. 7452.

Given the task of compiling a directory that lists the community involvements of faculty and staff, Michelle Mason of University College is asking members of the campus community to e-mail her with information detailing which community organizations, ie. Open Enrollment Ending for Long-Term-Care Insurance
Open Enrollment for John Hancock Long-Term-Care Insurance being offered through the University ends Dec. 7. All eligible employees between the ages of 18 and 70 may enroll in the plan regardless of medical history. Randi Oster of Long Term Planning Associates will be on campus Monday, Nov. 26 to answer any questions. Call her at 203-319-1131 to schedule an appointment. She will also be on campus from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 in the DeDominicis Room in Bartels Hall, the campus center. Important Parking Announcement
As of Friday, Nov. 16, parking in the rear of the German Club became a “Tow Zone,” a new rule that will be strictly enforced. Total cost for a parking ticket and tow: $95. Avoiding this charge by parking somewhere else: Priceless.
Recipe Contest
The Marketplace is looking for students’ favorite recipes. Turn in recipe cards with your favorite meals detailed by 3 p.m. Nov. 30; up to three recipes will be picked for dinner Dec. 5. Click here for more information.
Logo Contest
The Charger Cavalry, official student fan club of UNH, is looking for a student-drawn logo. Drawings must be submitted to William Little’s USGA Mailbox on the 3rd floor of Bartels Hall, the campus center, by Nov. 29. A prize will be awarded.
