A Surprise – And Joyous - Visit
from a Recovering Student and Friend

One by one, members of the Charger soccer team looked up this past Saturday as they realized just who was approaching them from the sidelines: It was James Hilaire, their soccer goalie, seriously injured in a September 23 game against Merrimack College and recovering more quickly than any of his doctors could have predicted. James surprised and delighted his team when he appeared for Senior Day Saturday at Kayo Field, and was honored along with the Charger’s other seniors before the game against the College of St. Rose. James has made significant progress in just the past week, sitting up, standing and taking steps on his own. He is receiving physical and cognitive therapy classes at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, where therapists are working to help him regain movement in his lower right leg and his right forearm. At Saturday’s game, James is joined by, from left to right, Assistant Coach Michael Wnek, Assistant Coach Manuel Oliveira, Graduate Assistant Coach David Faugno, fellow team members and seniors Jason Zurita and Jessey Fernandez, his father Rene, sister Maggie, Coach Josh Krusewski, and team member Jelani Joslyn.
