At 7 Tonight, Cheer on Women’s Volleyball
And Support Breast Cancer Awareness Too!
The top-ranked Women’s Volleyball Team competes against conference opponent Southern Connecticut State University in what is sure to be a hard-charging match at the Charger Gymnasium at 7 p.m. this evening, Wednesday, Oct. 15. Called one of the “newest powers” in the Northeast-10, the team is 6-0 in the conference. Game admission is $1, which enters you in a raffle to win a prize. Fire Science Club Event
Offers Safety Tips
UNH’s Fire Science Club showed students how fast a college residence hall room can erupt into flames when the group conducted a live fire demonstration in a “burn box” as part of events they planned to highlight National Fire Prevention Week. Other events included fire extinguisher training for students provided by Prescott Nadeau ’10, left, a visit by the New Haven “smoke trailer,” fire/life safety programs in residence halls, fire safety presentations with the West Haven Community House and public information tables throughout campus. James Hilaire Finds His Voice,
Is Moved From Intensive Care
Charger soccer goalie James Hilaire has been moved out of the intensive care unit of Boston Medical Center to intermediate care. He is responsive, and speaking. James has been reading his emails, and sends his thanks to the University community for the thoughts, prayers, notes and cards he has received.

Leonid ‘Leni’ Verbouk, 24, a senior at the University, died unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 5. Leonid was born in Bulgaria, and grew up in New Britain and Berlin. Funeral services were held this past weekend in Newington. To share a memory with his family, visit www.newingtonmemorial.com.

‘House of Fools’ Showing Friday
The Russian Film Series presents another brilliant film about war and peace in the Caucasus mountains, “House of Fools” (2002), at 4:45 p.m. Friday, October 17 in Room 108 of Kaplan Hall. (Russian with English subtitles.) The medical staff of a psychiatric hospital on the border between Russia and Chechnya in 1996 vanishes to apparently find help and the hospital's patients are left to run amok, but Janna, a young woman with schizophrenia who lives in the belief that the pop star Bryan Adams is her fiance, curbs their insanity.

UNH Bids Farewell to a Longtime Employee
Virginia Zawoy, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, is retiring after many productive years of service to the UNH community. Throughout her career, Virginia has worked with institutional and individual donors to advance University programs and projects.
