James Hilaire’s Condition Continues to Improve
James Hilaire, who suffered a serious injury after a collision with an opposing player during a game, ‘stepped down' to an intermediate care unit Sunday, Oct. 5. He is now listed in fair condition. James is breathing on his own and is using a letterboard to communicate with family and hospital staff. He has started to work with occupational and physical therapy staff. UNH Staffer Walks Off
With A Load of TV Loot
Assistant Registrar Alice Perrelli won big on the TV show “The View” Tuesday, Sept. 30. She was in the audience with her daughter for the taping of the following Friday’s show, watching “Dr. Gadget,” aka Dave Dettman, demonstrate a variety of gadgets. The items were all pink, to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Perrelli was delighted to hear that all audience members would be receiving one gift per guest, but somehow, Perrelli walked off with a pink 19-inch LCD flat-screen HDTV with DVD, a KitchenAid Artisan mixer, an Oreck vacuum cleaner, and a remote security starter for her car. “The show was fantastic,” Perrelli says.

Numerous events are planned for downtown West Haven in the next several weeks. Here are just a few:
Breast Cancer Candlelight Vigil, Oct. 10, 7 p.m., West Haven Green. Rain or shine. Part of the city’s ongoing campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer, one of America’s leading causes of cancer death among women and men, the ceremony is presented by the West Haven Breast Cancer Awareness Committee.

UNH Instructor Wins Accolades
Anchor Science LLC, a nanotechnology company co-founded by UNH adjunct Physics Professor Ewa S. Kirkor, won recognition as a top 100 “2008 Company to Watch” in Connecticut by the Connecticut Technology Council. "This is a great honor and it is wonderful to be recognized for the hard work and successes we have achieved," Kirkor says.
A Reminder on Parking
The University Parking and Transportation Task Force reminds all those participating in the parking rotations that Monday and Wednesday are A days, which means that they must park in off-campus lots on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuesdays and Thursdays are B days, meaning those with B stickers must park in off-campus lots on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Questions? Call Carol Koziatek at ext. 7479. On Monday, Oct. 13, and Tuesday, Oct. 14, those parking in off-campus lots may park on campus because there are no classes on either day. There will be no shuttle service to the off-campus lots.

The Center for Learning Resources is sponsoring an event to commemorate National Tutor Appreciation Week. CLR tutors will be recognized and tours of the center will be offered. Refreshments will be served. The event will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the Center in Maxcy Hall.

Wrestling Club Competes
Against SUNY/Albany
This past Saturday, the UNH Wrestling Club traveled to Albany for a scrimmage. Wresting coach Alex Nagy ’10, sophomore Mike Molino and freshmen Ralphie Mirabella and Pete Molino participated in a fast-paced drilling session followed by live wresting. Watch club members exhibit their wrestling prowess at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Beckerman Center during a wrestle-off and exhibition. The University community is invited.

Delta Phi Epsilon hosts “Are You Deepher Dude 2008?” Come audition for the male beauty pageant at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8 in Bartels Hall, the campus center. Proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
