The Bus to Showbiz Success: Get On It Now!
A bus that can hold 50 students is available for those interested in cheering on UNH Dancers Michael Kuzoian, far left, and Michael Minelli, third from left. The dancers, part of the group E3, have advanced to the preliminary rounds of Amateur Night at the Apollo Theatre in Manhattan to be held this Wednesday, March 26. There’s cash at stake: The dancers are competing for a $25,000 prize. Manager Marquis Bell and the group wish to publicly thank Henry and Nancy Bartels, Dean of Students Rebecca Johnson and Music Department Chair Guillermo Mager. With their help, the bus ride will cost just $10 per student. If you would like to purchase tickets to the show, please send an email to MBell1@newhaven.edu to reserve your spot. Bus seats are limited, so move quickly. All money will be collected at 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Jazzman's Cafe in Bartels Hall, the campus center. The bus will leave at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 from Bayer Hall. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. and will end at 10 p.m. The bus will return directly to the UNH campus after the show.
“The Kite Runner” Wins Selection as UNH Common Read
The critically acclaimed international bestseller, “The Kite Runner,” is UNH’s 2008-2009 Common Read selection. “The Kite Runner” explores the intertwined but markedly different worlds of two friends growing up in Kabul, Afghanistan, Amir, the son of a prominent, wealthy man, and Hassan, the son of Amir’s father’s servant and a Hazara, the shunned ethnic minority. It is the first work of fiction by author Khaled Hosseini, an Afghanistan-born physician living in California.
A UNH Authority on Workplace Bullying Shares Her Expertise
A segment of WNPR’s “Where We Live,” airing on Monday, March 17, featured a discussion with Dr. Tara L’Heureux, who teaches in the Industrial/Organizational master’s program here at UNH. UNH Goes Kosher
The Hazell Nut Café, originally started as a project for students majoring in Hospitality Management, recently began offering Kosher food products in addition to its coffee, tea, and ice cream menu. The café, which is open to the public as well as the UNH community, is able to now serve a wider range of customers and provide a breadth of experience and knowledge on keeping a Kosher facility to participating students.

UNH’s annual Scholarship Ball is set for Saturday, April 12 at the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center. Proceeds help support UNH scholarships and help our students have promising futures. During the past 25 years, the Ball has raised nearly $1.6 million to help deserving students. The gala features a silent and live auction, and honors three distinguished alumni. Educating Prisoners on the Consequences
Of Their Actions Topic of Library Lecture
Victim-impact education programs in the prison setting is the topic of UNH Assistant Professor and Coordinator of Crime Analysis Christopher Sedelmaier’s lecture at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 in the upper level of the Marvin K. Peterson Library. Sedelmaier will discuss a brief recent history of such programs, the goals of victim-impact education, curricula used, and the results of recent research in the area. Seeking an Artistic Touch
Sodexo would like to spruce up their dining space in New Hall and is looking for the campus community’s help. Prints or portraits of any medium will be accepted, as long as they represent Pandini’s theme “Old World Style, New World Flavor.” Submissions are due no later than Wednesday, April 16 to Csimeone@newhaven.edu or dropped off to Crystal at the front desk of Bartels Hall, the campus center’s dining hall.
A Concert for the Whole Family
A family concert called Whiz Kids 2008! will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at Woolsey Hall and will feature some of Connecticut’s rising young musicians as well as the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. If you would like to purchase tickets, which are $12 per adult and $5 per child, mention the code UNH when phoning the box office or on the day of the concert and you will receive a child’s ticket free with the purchase of an adult’s ticket.

UNH Theatre Presents “Zombies From The Beyond”
Program Director Appeared in Original on Off-Broadway
A musical similar to a low budget sci-fi movie, Zombies from the Beyond will cover topics such as the Cold War and space race paranoia in true comedic fashion. James Valcq, author of the show, will be playing in the orchestra for all performances. Sponsored by the UNH Theatre Program, the show will run from April 9 through 13. Admission is free for all UNH faculty, students, and staff with valid ID. The cost is $10 for non-UNH students with valid ID and $15 for the general public. Remembering the Holocaust
The Fifth Annual Holocaust Remembrance event will feature alumnus and Holocaust survivor Martin Schiller, author of “Bread, Butter And Sugar: A Boy’s Journey Through The Holocaust And Postwar Europe.” A list of names will also be read of individuals who perished in the Holocaust who were relatives of those in the UNH community. Any member of the UNH community who lost a relative in the Holocaust is encouraged to submit his or her name to Ira Kleinfeld at ikleinfeld@newhaven.edu to be included on the list. This event will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 in the Marvin K. Peterson Library.

Media Training Rescheduled
As respected members of the community, UNH faculty members are called upon by journalists to share their expertise. Communicating information successfully requires an understanding of what the media expects from you. This workshop will provide strategies that allow you to share your expertise and respond to journalists in a relaxed and confident manner. Rescheduled from March, the next workshop will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4 in the conference room of New Hall. Refreshments will be served and the workshop should last about 45 minutes. Tournament Benefits Cancer Research
The 2nd Annual Defend Against Cancer 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, to benefit the Jimmy V. Foundation for Cancer Research, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 18 in the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center. The event will be run by an Event Management class. Registration will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 31, April 1-4, April 7, 8, and April 14-17 in the lobby of Bartels Hall, the campus center. YouTube Yourself
An informational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, April 4 in Bartels Hall, the campus center to discuss this contest, where students may perform anything found on YouTube. The performance will take place Friday, April 25 in Dodds Theatre and cannot contain any nudity or inappropriate actions.
