Inventor of Advanced Stethoscope
Featured During Engineering Week
Alumnus Dr. Richard Deslauriers, who spoke as part of UNH’s National Engineering Week activities, is the inventor of an advanced stethoscope, a bone anchor and most recently, calcified bone cement that can glue bone back together. Dr. Deslauriers owns Doctors Research Group in Oxford.
Financial Aid Deadline March 1
The deadline to apply for financial aid is rapidly approaching. All FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) forms must be filed by Saturday, March 1 and signed copies of the Federal Income Tax return must be submitted by Friday, April 25. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information or if you have any questions.
Cheer on UNH Hip Hop Dance Crew at the Apollo March 26 - Transportation Available
UNH Dance Crew Michael Minelli ’10 and Michael Kuzoian ’10, both residents of New Hall, along with Central Connecticut State University sophomore Ron-Adrian Libatique, make up the hip-hop dance crew E3. They are vying for a $25,000 prize on “Showtime at the Apollo” on March 26, and they don't want to go it alone. They are asking UNH students to support them by attending the competition at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. The Dance Team is looking to university departments to help sponsor/charter two buses to the events. E-mail mbell1@newhaven.edu if you are interested in joining the cheering section.

Advisement Advice From the Pros Feb. 27
The faculty/staff Excellence in Student Academic Advisement Workshop will be held Wednesday, Feb. 27 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge, Bartels Hall, the campus center. The workshop will be conducted as a panel-led discussion. Panelists are UNH faculty and staff with significant expertise and extensive experience on the subject and include: James Cassidy, associate professor of Criminal Justice and program coordinator, M.S. in Criminal Justice; Kay Cuozzo, director, Office of Academic Services; Lynn Monahan, professor of Criminal Justice; and Joshua Sandman, professor of Political Science and 2007 winner of the UNH Award for Excellence in Student Advisement.

UNH’s annual Scholarship Ball is set for Saturday, April 12 at the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center. Proceeds help support UNH scholarships and help our students have promising futures. During the past 25 years, the Ball has raised more than $1.5 million to help deserving students. The gala features a silent and live auction, and honors three distinguished alumni. Works of Renowned Russian Artists Exhibited in Seton Gallery
Featured in the Seton Gallery through March 22 is “Relativity: The Work of Valery and Katya Levental.” This rare exhibition spotlights the works of Valery Levental, acclaimed set and costume designer for the Bolshoi Theater, among others, and his daughter, Katya Levental, a well-known artist and theatre designer in her own right. Law School Admissions Panel
The University of Connecticut, Pace University, and Penn State Dickinson School of Law will be represented at a law school admissions panel at 4:45 p.m. Monday, March 3 in the Upper Student Lounge of Bartels Hall, the campus center. Representatives will make presentations about the application process and answer students’ questions. A reception sponsored by Career Services will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Learn About the USGA Constitution
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 the Undergraduate Student Government Association will hold an open forum to discuss the constitution. A portion of the general fee paid by all undergraduates goes to the USGA and this meeting will inform everyone where that money goes and how they can get the most for their dollar. The meeting will take place in Meeting Rooms A and B in Bartels Hall, the campus center.
Police Officers Wanted
The West Haven Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of police officer. Applications are due by Wednesday, Feb. 27 and can be picked up at 200 Saw Mill Road or the South Central Criminal Justice Administration at 675 State St., New Haven.
Free Newspapers for Students Thanks To USGA Collegiate Readership Program
Students now have free access to USA Today and The New York Times at two locations on campus: Bartels Hall, the campus center, and the Marvin K. Peterson Library lobby, courtesy of the Undergraduate Student Government Association. Join USGA in celebrating Readership Day on Tuesday, March 4.

For Undergrads Graduating this Term Petitions Due March 3
Undergraduate petitions for May 2008 graduation are due with a payment of $110 ($50 for additional degrees) in the Bursar’s Office by Monday, March 3. Petitions submitted after that date must be accompanied by a $50 late fee. No petitions, even with a late fee, will be accepted after March 17. Petitions are available in the Registrar’s Office, the Bursar’s Office, Academic Services and University College and must be signed by your department chairperson. Bachelor candidates must assure they have passed the Writing Proficiency Exam. For more information, contact Sally Belbusti in Undergraduate Records at sbelbusti@newhaven.edu or 203-932-7305.
Writing Proficiency Examination Rescheduled
The Writing Proficiency Examination, originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23, has been rescheduled for Friday, February 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 1 at 9 a.m.
