The Beckerman Center Celebrates with Much Fanfare
Balloons and applause filled the air, ceremonial ribbons were cut, and praise was heaped upon the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center Monday as the campus celebrated its completion. Board of Governors chair Samuel S. Bergami, Jr., President Steven H. Kaplan, David A. Beckerman and several other dignitaries added their voices to the chorus of compliments about the gleaming pavilion whose glass enclosure is a traffic-stopper on the Boston Post Road.
UNH Dance Crew Vies for Prize on "Showtime at the Apollo"
Come out March 26 to support E3, a UNH dance crew that is competing for first prize of $25,000 in “Showtime at the Apollo,” at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. See ‘View from the Hill’ at right for the story on E3, and for more information on the performance.
Get Tickets Now for Business New Haven Awards Event Honoring President Kaplan
Business New Haven magazine will be honoring President Steven H. Kaplan with its Businessperson of the Year award at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at the New Haven Lawn Club at 193 Whitney Avenue in New Haven. The huge crowd that came out to cheer on the nationally televised UNH women’s basketball team Feb. 2 in their win against the University of Bridgeport - a game that also was streamed via Internet throughout the world - elicited a big thank you from Director of Athletics Debbie Chin. Reception Marks Opening of Renowned Russian Artists at Seton Gallery
With a new director and a new lineup of innovative art, the Seton Gallery begins the semester with a reception at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 to mark the opening of the exhibit “Relativity: The Work of Valery and Katya Levental.” The works showcase the talents of Valery Levental, an acclaimed set and costume designer for theaters throughout the world including Russia’s Bolshoi Theater and New York’s Metropolitan Opera House, and his daughter, Katya Levental, also an artist and theater designer. UNH’s softball team will host its second annual “Charger Homerun Breakfast” at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 in the Alumni Lounge at Bartels Hall, the campus center. Wearing red on Fridays in February symbolizes your support for awareness and education regarding heart disease and stroke, particularly the need for increased research in the dangers these diseases pose to women. Free Mammograms on Campus Feb. 16
UNH will offer free mammograms to the community as part of the ongoing “Think Pink” initiative, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. The Yale-New Haven Hospital Mobile Mammography Van will be located in the Maxcy Hall parking lot on the UNH campus. For more information or to schedule an appointment call 203-688-6800.

A University panel will present a workshop for faculty and staff on Excellence in Student Academic Advisement at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 Rooms A and B in Bartels Hall, the campus center. Panel participants include James Cassidy, associate professor of Criminal Justice, Kay Cuozzo, director, Office of Academic Services, Lynn Monahan, professor of Criminal Justice, and Joshua Sandman, professor of Political Science and 2007 winner of the UNH Award for Excellence in Student Advisement.
