UNH Professor Discusses His Book |
||
Lincoln’s Birthday Reveals Truths
About His Learning Style
On Thursday, Feb. 12, Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday, tune in to WNPR 90.5 between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. to hear UNH Professor David Perry talk about the way Lincoln approached learning – and how his particular learning style influenced how he died, or visit www.cpbn.org and find the interview on the cover page’s scroll. Perry, a respected Lincoln researcher, also has written a paper, “Abraham Lincoln and John George Nicolay: The Impact of Auditory and Visual Learning Styles on the Civil War,” that will be published in the Lincoln Herald, the oldest continuously published journal devoted to the study of Abraham Lincoln.
This Year’s Common Read Focuses
On Sustainability and a Road Trip to Remember
In keeping with the University’s increased focus on sustainability, this year’s Common Read selection is journalist Greg Melville’s “Greasy Rider: Two Dudes, One Fry-Oil-Powered Car, and a Cross-Country Search for a Greener Future,” an enormously entertaining journal of a cross-country trip in a car powered by cooking grease. Think it’s far-fetched? You can convert your car easily. Then you just need to get to know a restaurant owner willing to part with the greasy – but free - fuel you’ll need. The University is planning numerous events and programs around the book and the theme of sustainability. Click here to read a note regarding the book. In the same vein, David Rejeski will present a lecture on sustainability, “Can Web 2.0 Outperform Duct Tape and WD-40?” from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Burke Auditorium, Kroon Hall, Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He will discuss how the evolving information infrastructure has the potential to help with environmental challenges over the next decade. Rejeski directs the Project on Emerging Nanotechnologies and the Foresight and Governance Project at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C., and founded the Serious Games Initiative, a project dedicated to the application of computer and video game technologies to public policy issues.
