UNH Women’s Basketball Nationally Televised Feb. 2
From Charger Gymnasium; Be in the Stands and Receive Gift

Be in the stands at the Charger Gymnasium Feb. 2 to watch the nationally televised UNH vs. University of Bridgeport women's basketball game beginning at noon. It’s one of only six NCAA Division II games to be nationally televised by CSTV. Wear your UNH garb and receive a commemorative gift.

Let’s Celebrate February 11
UNH’s spectacular David A. Beckerman Recreation Center has opened to rave reviews. Join us at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11 as we celebrate this impressive new facility and honor those who made it possible. Refreshments and a commemorative gift are in store for those who attend.

The Center has strengthened the sense of community on campus by providing a gathering place for students, faculty and staff to exercise and socialize. In the Center’s first week more than 2,000 visited and in one day 500 visited. The Center features:

= An illuminated glass-enclosed running track
= State-of-the-art exercise equipment
= A gymnasium with courts for basketball, rollerblading, roller hockey, volleyball and indoor soccer
= A fitness center for activities such as yoga, step aerobics and Pilates
= Racquetball courts
= Lounges and changing rooms
= A juice bar (coming soon!)

Commencement Commences
Ernest F. Schaub ’72, president and chief executive officer of EnPro Industries, presented inspirational remarks to the standing-room-only crowd at the University’s Winter Commencement Jan. 19. Honorary degrees were awarded to Schaub, William L. Bucknall ’65, vice president Human Resources and Organization at United Technologies Corp., and John J. Crawford, a prominent New Haven-area business and civic leader. More than 300 graduate students and almost 150 undergraduates were awarded their degrees.

Campus Marks National Engineering Week
Kicking off National Engineering Week at the University in February will be several distinguished inventors and entrepreneurs. See Campus Events for information.

College Before College Contract Signed
This past Wednesday, President Kaplan and New Haven Schools Superintendent Reggie Mayo signed an agreement launching the College Before College program. New Haven high school students with a minimum score of 1100 on their SATs and at least a B+ in each class are eligible to take a class at UNH free of charge. Nineteen students have already registered and will begin classes this week.

W-2 Forms
University employees may pick up their W-2 forms at the pay window in Maxcy Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day. Forms not picked up by Jan. 31 will be mailed. No one may pick up a form other than his or her own.

Climate and Consequences
Subject of Talk

Dr. Larry Davis, UNH professor of Earth and Environmental Science will present “Climate Change: Causes, Consequences, Solutions” based on, in part, his experience as one of those selected and taught by Al Gore and his associates – on Thursday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Buckman Hall, Room 120.

Davis’ lecture is part of the nationwide “Focus the Nation” event taking place on Thursday, January 31, where the “focus” is on climate change: the problem, the consequences, and actions that can be taken to lessen the impact. The lecture will include an extensive discussion of possible solutions to the climate change problem. For more information, call 203-932-7108.

F.Y.I.
Residents of Forest Hills are advised that new parking restrictions allow students to park only in white spaces. Students will each be assigned a numbered parking spot. Any unauthorized vehicle in those spots will be booted or towed at the owner’s expense.

Leadership Conference
The deadline for applications to attend the North East Greek Leadership Association Conference has been extended to January 30. In order to apply, students must write a letter detailing why they would like to attend the conference, why they would make a good representative of UNH, and any clubs in which they have been involved. Completed letters must be mailed to studentactivities@newhaven.edu no later than 8 a.m.

OAS Workshops
The Office of Academic Services will hold several workshops through February to help students become more academically successful. Click here for a full schedule.

Alternative Spring Break
Applications for an alternative spring break March 15 and March 17 through March 19 are available from the Community Service office, the bulletin board by the Dining Hall in Bartels Hall, the campus center, and online at Alternative Spring Break Applications. Deadline to submit an application is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8.

President’s Public Service Fellowship 2008
Service will take place over 11 weeks in June, July, and August. Pick up an application in the Community Service office, on their bulletin board, or at click here. Application deadline is 4:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8.
