The Common Read choice for this academic year, “The Kite Runner,” by Khaled Hosseini, has spurred a resurgence of kite-flying nationwide. Campus ATM Changing Affiliation
The ATM located near the bookstore on campus will change to a Wachovia Bank ATM at the end of September.

Freshman Study Abroad Takes Off
Twenty freshmen from UNH will be boarding jets in a couple of weeks to travel to Roehampton University in England as part of the University’s Freshman Study Abroad program. In a highly competitive selection process, “we used academic profiles, SATs and SAT writing samples to choose the students,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management Dennis Nostrand. About 80 students remained on a waiting list for the program. “It has become extremely popular,” Nostrand said.

Interior Design Projects, Program On Display
Professor Christy Somerville has assembled an exhibit at the library for September highlighting UNH’s Interior Design program. Stop by the library, take in the exhibit and enjoy a coffee and muffin in the Jazzman’s Café. Included are interior design projects created by UNH interior design majors.

UNH Expert Featured In Online Radio Show
Dr. William Tafoya, director of the University’s National Security Program, will be interviewed on an online radio show, “Analysts’ Corner” at 10 a.m. Sept. 3. The program airs on the Internet at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Deborah-Osborne.

Campus Bookstore Opens Earlier This Week
Through Friday, Sept. 5, the Campus Bookstore will open at 8 a.m. instead of its typical opening time of 9 a.m., due to the needs of the record-setting freshman class, coupled with the numbers of returning students.

The inaugural UNH Faculty/Staff Talent Show will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in Dodds Theatre. A reception will follow the event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Prizes will be given for top performances. Interested in Robotics?
The Robotics Club offers electronics and mechanical design, with fun and friendship built in. This year, help design and use a cutting-edge fully autonomous fuel-cell lawn mower. Stay Informed With Free Newspapers
UNH’s Student Government Association is again sponsoring the Collegiate Readership Program, which provides free copies of USA TODAY and The New York Times in two locations in Bartels Hall, the campus center.

Registration ends Friday, Sept. 5 for Season 1 activities, which include soccer, 4-on-4 volleyball and Fiddle Stix. Stop by the Beckerman Center to sign up or register in Bartels Hall, the campus center, Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Thursday, Sept. 4.

Help Someone Out: Volunteer
The Community Service Office is seeking volunteers for several events, including Special Olympics Bowling in Hamden Sundays through Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon, a Sunday, Sept. 28 Walk to Lupus, and a Saturday, Oct. 18 autumn fair at the New Canaan Nature Center. Other opportunities are also available. For information and to sign up, contact Lyndsay at communityservice@newhaven.edu or stop by the Community Service Office in Bartels Hall, the campus center.
