Workplace Violence Conference: December 11
Dr. Henry C. Lee, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, and Connecticut State Representative Mike Lawlor will offer crucial advice at a Workplace Violence Conference being held at the University of New Haven on Tuesday, December 11. This all-day conference will offer workshops on relevant topics including employment law; warning signs for workplace violence; workplace violence and women; personality assessment; group dialogues and a Q&A discussion with conference speakers. UNH Officially in Northeast-10; Football Arrives in 2009
UNH announced officially that it has been accepted as a member of the Northeast-10 Conference for all sports, effective in the fall of 2008. The University also announced that football has been re-instated as a varsity sport. The team will begin competing as a member of the NE-10 in 2009. Read more about the announcement.

Federal Grant will Help Fund Magnet School Planned for UNH Campus
The city of New Haven recently received a $7.5 million, three-year grant from the federal government, part of which will help foster the creation of the University of New Haven's Science and Engineering University Magnet School, a $59 million state-funded facility. Mummies Aid Development of New Method of DNA Extraction at UNH
Dr. Heather Coyle, assistant professor of Forensic Science, and three Forensic Science graduate students at UNH have developed a new method for preparing certain skeletal remains for DNA extraction, thanks to some 800-year-old mummies from Mongolia. Read more about Coyle’s findings.

2007 Fall Bartels Fellow: William G. Crutchfield, “Being an Entrepreneur for All the Right Reasons:” November 8
William G. Crutchfield, who in 1974 started Crutchfield Corp. in his mother’s basement with only $1,000, shared a compelling story Nov. 8 of obstacles overcome and successes celebrated in the Fall Bartels lecture, “Being an Entrepreneur for All the Right Reasons.”
Crutchfield, the Fall 2007 Bartels Fellow and CEO of Crutchfield Corp., spoke as part of the Bartels Lecture Series to a standing-room-only crowd in Dodds Theatre. Read more about Crutchfield’s appearance and the Bartels Lecture Series.

Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Veteran’s Affairs Linda Schwartz awarded the Connecticut Wartime Service Medal to 12 members of the UNH community who have or are currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States during the 6th Annual Veterans Day Celebration at the University of New Haven on Monday, November 12. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is looking for UNH alumni to assist at college fairs in their hometown. Due to the increasing popularity of UNH throughout the country, it has become more difficult to have our staff cover every fair. College fairs typically take place in the evenings at high schools.
