Fellowships

Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice
During the 12 years he served as a Senator from Minnesota, Paul D. Wellstone earned a reputation as an advocate for social justice and as an outspoken champion for those who lack a voice in the national arena. Senator Wellstone was also a strong and vocal proponent of high-quality, affordable health care for all. To honor his life and legacy, Families USA, the national organization for health care consumers, established the Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice in 2004.
The Wellstone Fellowship for Social Justice is designed to foster the advancement of social justice through participation in health care advocacy work that focuses on the unique challenges facing many communities of color.
Through this fellowship, Families USA hopes to expand the pool of talented social justice advocates from underrepresented economic, racial and ethnic minority groups, including black/African American, Latino, Native American, and Asian and Pacific Islander communities. The goals of the Wellstone Fellowship program are three-fold:
 - To address disparities in access to health care;
 - To inspire Wellstone Fellows to continue to work for social justice throughout their lives; and
 - To increase the number and racial and ethnic diversity of up-and-coming social justice advocates and leaders.
Families USA will select one talented and motivated candidate to fill this 12-month fellowship.
Eligibility:  The Wellstone Fellowship is designed to increase the number of low-income, black/African American, Latino, Asian and Pacific Islander, and Native American social justice leaders. Candidates seeking consideration for the Wellstone Fellowship must demonstrate an interest in health care policy as a tool for reducing racial and ethnic health disparities. Applicants should also demonstrate a commitment to contributing to social justice work following their year of hands-on experience as a fellow.  In order to be considered, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. They prefer that applicants have a college degree or plan to receive a degree by August 2010.   There is no minimum GPA requirement, and candidates from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Deadline: Friday, February 5, 2010

Student Surveys

Survey for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning Undergraduate Students
To Whom It May Concern,

My name is Patrick McBride, and I am currently finishing my last semester of undergrad at Christopher Newport University. As one of my last courses I have created an independent study in which I am researching, writing, and surveying on the experiences of LGBTQ students at higher education institutions around the country. The survey I am sending out asks questions ranging from what sources are available for students, what sources they feel they could benefit from, and other varied experiences.

If possible, please forward the below link to any undergrads who are a part of the LGBTQ population to help me further in conducting my survey.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and if you have any information, you can contact me via email.

Sincerely,
Patrick Allen McBride
