Biomedical Science Careers Program
Two objectives: primary objective is to provide approx 700 African American, Hispanic and American Indian/Alaska Native student with an opportunity to network with advisors/role models from the basic and clinical sciences, medicine, public health, academic administration and the private sector. The second objective is to enable student participants to meet, inspire and network with one another.

Internships
HRC Communities & Marketing Internship
The Communications & Marketing Department at the Human Rights Campaign is responsible for the organization's media relations, message development, publications, advertising and marketing. This internship focuses on media relations and publications, offering an opportunity to learn the techniques and strategies used in press outreach for a large non-profit organization, as well as the production of a variety of written materials including booklets, pamphlets, ads and brochures, along with HRC's quarterly magazine, Equality. This internship represents an excellent opportunity for someone interested in learning about careers in non-profit communications.
Eligibility:
- Majors in journalism, communications, English, public relations or related fields preferred
- Professional writing, editing, proofreading and communication skills
- Strong copyediting skills, a strong command of English spelling and grammar; experience with AP style preferred
- Proficiency and experience with Lexis/Nexis and online research
- General computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Demonstrated interest in gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender issues
- Team player who is willing to pitch in and help out a definite plus - creativity welcome!

HRC Political Internship
The Human Rights Campaign's Political Department consists of the Federal Legislative Team and HRC's Political Action Committee. Political interns work with this team and assist with tracking legislation, researching voting records and statements of elected officials and sending correspondence to Capitol Hill. Political interns play a vital role in the success of the department
Eligibility:
- Strong writing and communication skills
- General knowledge of the legislative process
- Enthusiasm and an interest in the role of policy advocacy and GLBT issues
- Strong research skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Lexis Nexis.

HRC Finance Internship
The Finance team at the Human Rights Campaign hopes to make every internship with our group a beneficial and satisfactory experience for both the intern and the staff. Each intern will rotate through a number of tasks to get a feel for the varied components of managing the finances of a large non-profit organization. In addition, Finance interns are encouraged to participate in opportunities to assist other programs and network throughout the organization, while supporting the broader mission of our organization.
Eligibility:
- Assist Accounts Payable with check runs to understand the process from receipt of a check request through payment;
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and/or bank statements to ensure proper accountability of cash;
- Process revenue, including preparing daily deposits, processing in-house charges and keying journal entries;
- Review pledges receivable to identify accounts in need of follow-up;
- Tracking of tasks in Outlook and MS Project;
- Assist in drafting or reviewing procedures;
- Ensure proper accounting for activities among three primary organizations and one subsidiary fund;
- Other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Satisfactory completion of Principles of Accounting I and II and proficiency with Excel

HRC Field Internship
The Human Rights Campaign's Field Department engages in state and local advocacy and electoral work. HRC works with advocacy groups and fair-minded legislators across the country to advance gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality at the state and local levels. HRC tracks all legislative developments at the state level; provides legislative language and legal analysis; offers legislative, political, and electoral assistance; activates grassroots support; and convenes meetings, conferences and trainings for activists and state GLBT leaders. HRC provides similar financial and staff support to ballot campaigns conducted to advance GLBT equality or to defeat anti-LGBT measures.
Eligibility:
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Willing to learn about state and federal legislation and elections
- Basic proficiency in or willing to work with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel; proficiency in Power Point is a plus but not required

Multicultural Experiences Survey (Conducted by Faculty at Arizona State University)
"Under the direction of Professors Brandon Yoo, Kelly Jackson, and Rudy Guevarra at Arizona State University, we are conducting a research study to examine multiracial experiences of adults over the age of 18 with multiple racial backgrounds. This area of research is understudied thus making your participating even more invaluable!
We are currently looking for multiracial individuals (i.e., have biological parents from different racial groups) to fill out a one- time, on-line questionnaire on the topic of race, ethnicity, and well- being, which will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and confidential.
